Ford did not get a second term because he pardoned a crook, Nixon. Otherwise there was no major fault with his presidency.
I see no evidence of him "enraging swing voters." He's enraged you and other folks who loathed him before. It looks to me like moderates who could go either way are largely happy with the results, and are not going to let tweets and unfortunate quotes mar the good results.

I see the evidence. The only member of my extended family who voted Trump has withdrawn all support. He reserves the right to put Republicans in Cogress. I’m OK with that.

Sure, but that's "voters" in general, so it's not testing the Trump supporters per se. Of course all the Democrats are going to say they're embarrassed.

Also, I'm embarrassed by some of what he's said too, but in the end, voting for him for reelection is going to come down to job performance, and if 2018 proceeds like 2017, there are going to be some different evaluations of him come the end the year.

The embarrassed people will weigh that against results.

An economic downturn or a foreign policy failure, though, will crush him. He cannot withstand that. In true Trumpian fashion, he has it all laid on the line -- all or nothing. Nobody will care that he's a total asshole, if he succeeds. That's the way it works. Everyone knows he's an asshole, and not a nice guy. That's only a problem if you don't have success.

Yeah, that is coming. The downturn. So about 2019 nearly all will give up on Trump. But since we are into punishing presidents and their party, a Republican who is not Trump will do badly in 2020.

Well, hopefully the upturn will last longer than that. The last thing we need is a reason to get a fucking socialist in there. An economic downturn will have us faced with Elizabeth Warren and her ilk.

Yeah we will get her. And you can only blame Trump failure for that.

The Trump tax cut is the equivalent of a pay day loan. It is a short term solution. It in fact solves nothing at all. Jobs are not coming here, manufacture.

So, the long term solution is to place an even greater tax burden on them?

But when it comes to actual policy accomplishments tied to pledges he made on the campaign trail, Trump is actually doing pretty well – whether you like the results or not.

No. Leave the corporate tax cut. Return the rest to what it was.

Trump knocks off day with diet coke and disappears to watch his 3 TVs all weekend. Expect some tweets.

Aren't his approval ratings lower than any other president ever?

Yes. I thought you conservative types understood the concept of living within your means. Borrowing money to cover plummeting revenue isn't a sustainable, let alone intelligent, approach. And when you say "an even greater" tax burden, you realise that tax burdens are massively lower than they were in the past, right?

Political careers may be made and lost Friday as President Donald Trump and Republicans and Democrats in Congress trade blame while the government races toward a midnight shutdown deadline.
But while Washington fixates over the partisan stakes of the funding drama, the real victims of the latest lurch into government dysfunction are powerless to influence their fates, and can only look on in rising panic and fear.
I saw is said this morning that there's no guarantee that essential government staff who are required to work through a shutdown will get backpay. WTF?! Land of the brave and the authoritarian... :?
