Of course it is an addiction.

Social media on the internet are huge and millions of users are addicted to them. That's what your infographic shows. It does not contradict anything I posted, though.Scot Dutchy wrote:Bollocks.Hermit wrote:Back on topic, manipulating people's opinions, spreading fake news and statistically analysing populations are all ancient. So addiction does not restrict freedom?

Re: Is Facebook is killing freedom and liberty?
If, for the sake of argument, we accept that the use of social media can be an addiction, perhaps along the lines of compulsions to eating, sex, gambling, or shopping etc, what might be a good treatment for it?

Re: Is Facebook is killing freedom and liberty?
It is not a question of argument as it has been proven to addictive to a point that it controls peoples lives. Like I said take kids to an area where there zilch internet for two weeks. It is cold turkey but it does work.Brian Peacock wrote:If, for the sake of argument, we accept that the use of social media can be an addiction, perhaps along the lines of compulsions to eating, sex, gambling, or shopping etc, what might be a good treatment for it?

I know someone who regularly stops drinking for two weeks at a time. It doesn't stop them being an alcoholic.

I'm just saying there's more to it than simply denying access to the object of obsession.

Apparently it is sufficient to cure you of social media. It is becoming not cool to have an account on the many social media's.

You're just trying to change the subject now. The article quoted in the opening post asks: "Do social media threaten democracy?"Scot Dutchy wrote:So addiction does not restrict freedom?

Social media is addictive. Addiction affects democracy by affecting choice. That is why the orange turd is in power.
