Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

You could have both in one cute, furry package...

Facebook gets maximum fine for the catastrophic Cambridge Analytica data breach

Post by Scot Dutchy » Thu Oct 25, 2018 10:46 am

He will pay that from his back pocket's loose change.

Facebook gets maximum fine for the catastrophic Cambridge Analytica data breach
Facebook has been fined £500,000 ($645,000) by the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office for the Cambridge Analytica data breach.

It is the maximum possible fine available to the British watchdog, but would have been much higher had Europe’s GDPR rules been in force when the breach took place.

Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said Facebook “should have known better and it should have done better.”
He will just appeal against it.

The really horrendous thing is that, no matter how clearly the legal system tells everyone that facebook is fucking them, everyone will still log into facebook to bitch about it.

I almost think the users deserve it now.

There is a slippery principle in labour law, where if a boss sees you come in late every day for years, then starts disciplining you for being late, he can get shit on for his changed expectations of your work. I see a kind of similarity here. I left facebook because it's too creepy even for me, but lots of people still love it, while hating how everyone knows their business.

It is actually quite easy. A woman has at least one X chromosome.

One thing about Facebook. Post a picture of a dog or a cat being cute and you get 50 likes - or a lot more if you have loads of FB friends (I don't). Post a serious item, for example, I posted an article about a zip wire being installed, despite much local resistance in the Lake District (a terrible planning/zoning decision). The response? Nada, zero. Zilch.

Stay in touch but say nothing of interest basically. The medium truly is the message it seems.

I think most people go to facebook for leisure time. They don't like seeing things which highlight how fucked the world is. It shits me too. Post a picture of my kids, lots of likes. Post anything else - crickets.

I wonder how much of that is to do with the way people use facebook and how it is designed i.e. geared for instant but almost meaningless reactions to simplistic concepts, and how much is to do with the facebook algorithms about what appears in people's feeds. It's possible that out of the people who follow you on there, many might not have even seen it if facebook doesn't consider a local news article something they'd be interested in seeing.

But yeah, I always found facebook shite for that kind of thing.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

It makes me wonder if the Facebook users are really zombies, or are there places where people can be genuine like we are here at Ratz where they let loose and interact like human beings?

The reason I love Ratz even now as a shadow of its original self is that I feel uninhibited - more or less anyway- and feel I can just blurt it out. The audience is all you fuckers after all so who cares?! You can’t do that on Facebook. Your granny might not like it for staters.
