News Flash: Capitalism isn't a meritocracy. Pictures at eleven.

And a peculiarly American twist to this is the constant peddling of the myth that anybody can become a millionaire, all it takes is grit and hard work, and that any threat to the free market or higher taxes on the rich will cruel your chance of making it to the top...

I was a millionaire in Turkey the first time I went there.

Dan Price announced a minimum salary of $70,000 to all of his 120 employees back in 2015. It paid off big time

Yeah, how likely is non-predatory capitalism on a wide scale? Not very.

Maybe it's just meant to serve as proof of concept. If one an American internet entrepreneur was able to pay all his 120 employees a minimum salary of $70,000 back in 2015, it is proof that all employers in all countries are able to pay all their employees $77,000 today.

It would definitely solve fruit and veggie growers' problem finding people to harvest whatever cannot yet be done with million dollar machines. Unfortunately it would create another: Finding someone who'd buy harvests that have been picked by workers who are paid the equivalent of Dan Price's internet employees.

Simples. We employ Pacific Islanders for $15/hour.

Predatory capitalism is ok, as long as it isn't our citizens being predated! :awesome:

Another proof of concept is Maccas and the like employees being on the European minimum wage instead of the US poverty wage. Somehow the Europeans still manage to sell a shitload of Maccas.

All full time burger flippers at MacDonald's should be paid the equivalent of what Dan Price paid his employees in 2015 and part time flippers the same on a pro rata basis. The owners of Burger King will love it. All other fast food franchisors too.
