So the phrase 'the touchless economy' has started to pop up in my feeds: a cipher for remote interactions mediated by technology. Internet shopping is the prime example, along with ideas about the possibility of things like deliveries by robot/drone, driverless cars, 'telehealth' medical consultations and/or procedures, education via internet video chat, remote working from home, public gathering in VR spaces (which we could say has already happened via social media platforms) becoming the norm.
I'm guessing that our recent individual and collective experiences following "The Event" have made us susceptible to the idea that our direct, personal, physical interactions may now represent the threat of contagion/contamination - such that all we need to do is avoid contact with anyone outside of our personal 'bubble' and then we can carry on consuming and contributing to the economy as 'normal'.
It seems that Marx's theory of alienation might be being baked ever-harder into our socio-economic relations. All quite Ballardian really.
