Re: Republicans
When you say 'Republicans' you mean US Conservatives. We've talked before about the differences between political conservatives and political liberals - so I'll try and dig a link out later.
Contemporary conservatism is decidedly anti-intellectual. It's all part of the 'you can't tell me my opinion is wrong' story that conservatism often elevates to the level of an expertise.

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

I not infrequently picture myself with a baseball bat in hand, casually caving in the skulls of "people" like that. I'm starting to think I might need electro-shock therapy or something. It's starting to feel decidedly like 'skull caving-in' time a lot more around here...

Hermit, still, it's Jesus, abortion and atheism that they worry about. Universities represent all that they hate. Above all, change.

Exactly. Not education as such.Tero wrote:Hermit, still, it's Jesus, abortion and atheism that they worry about. Universities represent all that they hate. Above all, change.
I bet 42 is wholeheartedly in favour of education even while he farts post after post about the pernicious influence of universities and colleges.

Re: Republicans
Yes, of course it has to be the "right" (in more ways than one) education, but there's plenty of that to be had in the arts faculties of our august institutions of higher learning. Even in the departments that are often branded as breeding grounds of the revolting classes, such as philosophy, Eng.Lit., economics, sociology, history, media studies,... I hope you realise that both Keith Windshuttle and Andrew Bolt have BA degrees, and they are just two of many right wing hacks who have gone through the Arts Mill.JimC wrote:Education that churns out engineers, doctors and lawyers, not arts graduates...Hermit wrote:Exactly. Re: Republicans
In the past 48 years of politics, we had 20 years of Democrats and 28 years of Republicans as presidents. Those politics include criminal activities and convictions:
GOP 209
DEM 4
