What has the EU had to say about the draft deal? I thought according to Scot the EU wasn't going to give them any deal at all and the Brits would be out on their arses with no trade deals and whatnot.

I bet they will try to cut aspects of it, if only for spite. Everything I've read suggests a surprisingly high level of European animosity towards Britain...

I haven't heard anything specifically but over the last couple years they've been pretty solidly behind their negotiators and committed to whatever the block decides. The agreement seems to have some slight further compromises from them, but I wouldn't expect it to cause problems at their end. The problems have always been with the UK's self contradictory positions usually originating within the Tory party. It's the demands for unicorns that risk us not getting a deal.pErvinalia wrote: ↑Fri Nov 16, 2018 3:22 amWhat has the EU had to say about the draft deal? Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
The deal has to be ratified by the remaining member states. A summit had been arranged for 25 November. Until then, the draft remains a provisional agreement. Although the remaining member states are expected to give it the thumbs up if they don't reach a unanimous agreement the EU could ask the Barnier team to renegotiate specific elements of the draft. But to a great extent the ball is almost entirely in the UK's court.pErvinalia wrote:What has the EU had to say about the draft deal? Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
Barnier stated the EU position on day 1 and has not moved an inch since. The "agreement" is one of UK compromises. The EU is still at its original starting point. I did not say there would be no deal but a deal according to the EU which it is. The crucial point being the NI border. The UK has agree to the SM and CU for unlimited time. Only leaving when the EU considers the time is right but NI will be permanently tied in. Where is the EU compromise in that?pErvinalia wrote: ↑Fri Nov 16, 2018 3:22 amWhat has the EU had to say about the draft deal? The border has to moved to the Irish Sea which is what the DUP did not want.
This "agreement" has already failed so it does not matter anymore. There are just not the numbers or the will to support it. The real question now is will May survive the weekend as PM?

Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
To be fair there have been compromises on both sides.

It isn't true that the EU has not compromised. Both sides have. I'm no defender of Brexit but facts are facts.

Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
Well for one you keep insisting that the EU won't give on the question of a hard border in the island of Ireland. They obviously have. There won't be.
I'm not going to argue this out with you however as from past experience you just change the goal posts if you are proven wrong.
