US to be reduced to dodgy NK ashtray?

North Korea says it may 'reduce the US mainland to ashes any moment'

This is reminding me of that book from the past. I think it was called "The mouse that roared"...

I'm happy to be corrected on this one but doesn't Guam have more than one US strategic airbase ?
Isn't it likely to have some serious anti-missile defenses ?
Also isn't August just the wrong time to start a war In Korea ?
This is all brinkmanship without any sense of humour IF I were Donald I'd shut the fuck, up say nothing and then use cruise missiles and stealth bombers to spray Pyongyang
with DMSO and LSD and I mean tonnes of it .

The main trouble is the vast number of artillery pieces, many in very carefully constructed protection, just to the north of Seoul. From accounts I've read, if any military attack occurred from the US or the ROK, many thousands of shells would rain down on Seoul before the artillery could be taken out. After that, the war would probably be one-sided, but there would be huge numbers of civilian casualties.

Yep, having your capital city just a few dozen miles from the border with your insane neighbour is just silly ...

Any tasty food, delivered by millions of tiny parachutes and packaged in styrofoam so it is still hot when it lands will do the trick. Bomb them like that every day for three months, if necessary, though it's unlikely to take long before the ordinary North Koreans realise that the West is not the ogre they have been told it is. They'll realise there are more fun things in life than goose-stepping past dear leader and mouthing oaths of loyalty and admiration for him.laklak wrote:What Hermit said.

It is important not to repeat the mistake of abandoning them once the dictator is gone. That's the biggest mistake the liberators made when the Afghanis finally ousted the Soviet military. Help them build schools, hospitals, factories that produce things other than tanks and ordnance. Enable them to live and feel like humans who are entitled to and able to enjoy life already.
Let the love offensive begin - the sooner, the better.
OK,OK, I know. I'm dreaming.

That's basically what happened to the Soviets once glasnost opened things up a bit. It's hard to keep 'em on the collective farm once they've got their hands on a Nintendo. Of course, then they've got to deal with all the problems that brings, but I'll take income inequality over reeducation camps and the constant threat of nuclear annihilation any day.

A Marshal plan for North Korea plus MDMA in the water supply.

That's just propaganda, lak. Glasnost opened capitalism, which guarantees monopoly, higher prices and higher inefficiencies than under socialism. It's not opportunity, it's oppression. The problem with the Soviet Union wasn't the system, it was that the wrong people did things the wrong way. Next time, better people will be handling things.laklak wrote:That's basically what happened to the Soviets once glasnost opened things up a bit. The DPRK's biggest threat right now is submarines. They reduce the response time considerably. So, if we don't know where all their subs are, then we have an issue.

He's keeping you distracted with submarine activity whilst placing two dozen nukes on small fishing smacks that wouldn't stand out in a crowd on both the Western and Eastern seaboards of the US. In real time 'at war mode' with NK and the guy stroking a little white cat means business...Forty Two wrote:The DPRK's biggest threat right now is submarines. They don't have launch capability on their subs, though. Yet. I read that they've been working on it. We have a couple of boomers in the area, though, armed with 24 Trident D5 missiles. From memory those are 8 warhead MIRVs. Lil' Kimmy needs to do the math.
