The US healthcare system is ludicrous.

One example in this video: married couple is on the way to hospital to have a kid. They don't make it in time. Kid pops out in the back of their car. Private ambulance comes, picks up mom and baby and takes them to hospital. Later, mother and baby each get a bill for US $1770. To be clear, that's a separate bill for each of them, one for mother and one for baby, NOT one bill for both. So ~$3500 altogether. Remember, the pregnancy had already happened; the ambulance just gave them a short ride to the hospital, and bam, $3500.

I can't imagine having to weigh up if I could afford to call an ambulance or see a doctor.

Well, it's the system they have. Apparently just under 60% of American's want what they call a 'single-payer' healthcare system, but when you drop the terminology and just describe a free at the point of use healthcare system that goes up to 80%+. I guess the residual 20% are those who don't have to worry about medical bills.

Terms as UHC means little to the average American also he has trouble trying to envisage how the system would look like.
The same is true of American ex-pats when they come here (which is seldom these days) at have their first experience of our system. They walk around a hospital asking where they can pay. Once they got used to the system they had all their kids sent to an orthodontist for treatment which is included in the health care package.

I don't know anyone that likes the cost of US healthcare. However, I know many who believe you guys get terrible care, if any at all. So they tend to see the high cost as the lesser evil. They can always hope for charity, but can't imagine relying on a dead eyed bureaucracy for something so important.

The propaganda is really working is it not. Just unbelievable. :fp:

I have already heard this from ex-pats here. They could not believe the care they got and not getting financially threatening bills was completely beyond them.

Yeah, it's bad. What gets me is lack of fucks given to explaining why things have to be so bad. Too many Americans believe that's just the way things are rather than how some few assholes have made them.

Which is strange, because from the outside the US system seems to be run entirely by and for dead eyed bureaucrats - just not necessarily government paper-pushers.

A 30% mortality pandemic will even out the various healthcare systems and prepare the world for one world government.
