Re: The US Healthcare Mass Debate
Let me rephrase - why don't the Democrats simply propose increasing the level for Medicaid eligibility so that the people they say can't afford it can get Medicaid, and let everyone else get their own insurance?
All these Obamacare coverage requirements are both overinclusive and underinclusive. Take the "stay on your parent's policy until you are 26." That's not even means-tested. So, grown adults are out there on their parents' policies who can afford their own insurance. You'll have a 25 year old making $60,000 a year and mom and dad have them on their insurance?
And, with the massive increases in premiums, you have people who make the median income in the US who didn't have insurance before because it was too expensive, now forced to buy insurance at 3 times the price with no subsidy.
If they just raised the Medicaid level to, say $30,000 per year, wouldn't that solve the problem?

“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

Re: The US Healthcare Mass Debate
Why would Democrats propose anything? The point of Trump is not to pass anything for 4 years. He went in as asshole candidate who will cut everything to "special groups" like the poor.

Re: The US Healthcare Mass Debate
Politically, Trump is setting up the election 2020 to remove ANY Republican candidate running then
President Trump has been ramping up his threats to derail the Affordable Care Act in the last few days, especially since Republicans on Capitol Hill have put aside their immediate effort to repeal or replace the law.
Early Friday morning, after Senate Republicans failed to pass their "skinny repeal” that would roll back portions of the Affordable Care Act, President Trump tweeted, "As I said from the beginning, let ObamaCare implode, then deal. Watch!"

GOP spends years trying to repeal this. Insurance companies (they do not need patients, they have at least 100 million) keeps fighting it too, avoiding any risk.

Obamacare not dead yet:
President Donald Trump contends the health care law is “dead,” but residents of all but one county in America will be able to get an Obamacare health plan next year.
Poised for their fifth enrollment cycle this fall, the Obamacare insurance markets are proving more resilient than many anticipated, with insurers jumping in to cover regions other companies fled, undercutting GOP predictions of widespread market collapses.

It took an asshole as president to get 2 parties to work on a bill? And who will sign it? Maybe Pence. He will only work 2-3 years anyway.

Re: The US Healthcare Mass Debate
The only question is, can Trump's health care plan kill the poor fast enough for the next election cycle?
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Re: The US Healthcare Mass Debate
GOP not quite done srewing Americans:
And that’s why they’re on the verge of ramming through a new Senate bill that, according to Louisiana’s Bill Cassidy, one of the authors, reportedly has the support of 48 or 49 senators already.
One of those senators? Arizona’s John McCain. After he cast his surprise “no” vote in July, Donald Trump — and other conservatives — railed against him for what they considered the decisive single vote that killed their repeal efforts.
This time, though, McCain is apparently on board with selling out the American people.
The so-called Cassidy-Graham bill is, like all the other Republican attempts at repeal, a disaster. Except that this is particularly extreme, despite the bills’s sponsors disingenuously insisting it’s a “compromise.” It would eliminate Medicaid expansion entirely, as well as insurance subsidies, both of which have expanded health care access to millions of Americans who could not otherwise afford it.

Last ditch effort is flatout repeal. No subsidies no tax benefit for buingbinsurance. No benefits, no controls on insurance.

Re: The US Healthcare Mass Debate
Republicans had real input (via lobbyists) on Obamacare. Not so on repeal:
Senate Republicans have organized a couple of sham hearings, but will move forward without a full CBO score and no time to mark up or amend the bill.
Even more shocking, due to the way they have forced the bill through the reconciliation process, they will only be allowing 90 seconds of debate on the Senate floor.

Mother Jones:
You can read more of the details about the bill elsewhere, but here are the big takeaways:
Basically turns everything over to the states. It gives each state a chunk of money and allows them to do nearly anything they want with it.
Eliminates protections for pre-existing conditions even though it says otherwise. The trick is that although insurers are required to cover everyone, they can charge anything they like. In practice, this means a pre-existing condition will prevent you from ever getting insurance.¹
Slashes spending on Medicaid and turns it into a block grant.
Slashes federal subsidies and turns them into a block grant too.
Allows states to eliminate Obamacare regulations governing essential medical benefits. This means it’s back to reading the fine print if you buy a medical policy. Maybe it covers doctors’ visits, maybe it doesn’t. It all depends on what your state’s governor decides.
