Turnbull is digging in, first demanding a letter with 43 signatures before he'll call a meeting, plus pointedly reminding his colleagues (and the whole of Oz) that Dutton's eligibility to sit in parliament is under question, as I mentioned in an earlier post. He also confirmed that if he loses the vote, he will immediately resign his seat, forcing a by election...

It's politics in the style of Gladiator...

Talk now that Julie Bishop and possibly even Abbott will throw their hats in the ring too.

This is getting intriguing. Great for political wonks like me, but a fucking joke for the electorate.

Word now is that Dutton can't get the 43 signatures on the petition. So Mal might remain PM for at least the next two weeks. And in the meantime MPs will return to their electorates and hear how much people are sick of the leadership antics, and might lose their nerve for a change.

I guess they are considering how embarrassing it would be to elect a leader who may not actually be eligible to sit in parliament...

On an amusing note, political pundits keep mentioning that Turnbull will leave politics if deposed as leader. The government, they say, may lose its one-seat majority. Pig's arse, they will. A by-election is guaranteed to return a Liberal MP. In the last election Turnbull attracted 62% of the vote in his seat before redistribution of preferences. The Labor candidate came in a distant second with 18%, just ahead of the Greens candidate with 15%. After preferences were distributed the result was Liberal 68%, Labour 32%. Fucking potatohead would win this seat if he stood for it.

Back to the serious stuff: The situation is so horrible that even our crocs cannot stand any more of it. One was seen using a pool noodle in its attempt to escape to Papua New Guinea.
