Hermit explained it all here: http://www.rationalia.com/forum/viewtop ... 0#p1808160

Our blue bottle is a closely related species, with slightly more of a blue tinge, Physalia utriculus

And the current numbers are fairly rare, you often only see the occasional one...

An Australian stinger expert believes a rare, giant bluebottle with multiple tentacles and a more severe sting could be responsible for a spate of emergency department presentations for suspected bluebottle encounters in Queensland.

Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

That's certainly true of siphonophores, the group to which blue bottles belong, but the true jellyfish are actually single organisms, albeit with specialised cells...

They're fucking commies, is what they are. Vicious, dangerous commies that need to be exterminated. Luckily, patriotic turtles eat the fuckers.

Lost a series to India at home for the first time. Doesn't matter, as long as we can beat the Poms...

Hahaaaa. Hughey, the Australian god in charge of weather had mercy on me two days in a row. Living just 70 kilometres south of the town with the highest maximum for today, Port Augusta with 49°C, the worst it got to was 36.

It's down to 31.5°C now. by 7pm it might have dropped below 30.

ETA: I don't know where you're getting your figures from, but Weatherzone, which obtains its information from the Bureau of Meteorology, has the Gutta's top temperatures down for 48.5°C on the 15th and 44.7 today.
