The trouble with some kinds of drugs, like alcohol say, is that they are more than a little bit moreish. Get a taste for that kind of stuff and you can end up putting everything else in your life aside without even thinking about.

Yeh, but impressionable people have trouble separating movies from real life.
Especially in the US.

That's why they want guns. They want to be like Clint, and big John.
Movies have a lot to answer for.

It's not about the addict, I don't care what you put in your body, it's about the murders to facilitate the manufacture, transport and distribution of the drugs that concerns me.

I don't see how that addresses my point, which was that I don't think selling drugs should be a capital offense.

The OP was about the escaped Mexican drug gang boss. From what I can gather, he murdered (and/or ordered murdered) quite a few people. Whether this should attract a death penalty is moot, but he did a lot more than just sell drugs.

But, on just selling drugs, naturally I would agree with you.

Murder may or may not be a suitable justification for the death penalty, sure.

Me, I'd prefer jailing them in Supermax for the rest of their natural days ... "how the mighty have fallen" and all that.

Now, in the Mexican system, killing them is likely the safest bet for keeping them from killing more, but it's a kindness I don't think the state should extend, generally, given secure confinement.
