It's hardly surprising that they abandoned it.

The US shuttle program was never a success. They could have done the same thing with simple rockets safer, and for less. But you don't know that starting out.
I can't see why Russia would want to preserve a failed project for posterity. It might get a few tourists, but not a lot, with it's limited history.
And from a national pride point of view, it would be a negative advert.

I am surprised it hasn't even got a caretaker though.
In the UK, the thieving bastard travellers would have stripped it for scrap long ago.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
