UN council endorses nuclear curbs

US President Barack Obama issues nuclear disarmament call

The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution calling for nuclear disarmament, in a session chaired by US President Barack Obama.

The resolution calls for further efforts to stop the spread of nuclear arms, to boost disarmament and to lower the risk of "nuclear terrorism".

It was the first time a US president had chaired a Security Council summit.

While I don't agree with everything he does. Furthering nuclear disarmament is something I'm firmly with Obama on.

I hope so too, but my Dad is so against it. He sends me at least 1 email a day that's trying to tell me what's wrong with the plan and how it's going to turn America Socialist. :nono:

People should be pleased that Obama is proposing cuts to the socialist nuclear forces of the USA...There is no place for the dead-hand of Govt in nuclear deterrence. It should be left to private companies.

Then you'll remember when Milo tried to privatize the war by taking a contract to bomb his own airfield?

It couldn't ever happen.....that'd be like Blackwater cutting a deal with Al Qaeda to bomb the Green Zone in Baghdad and then.....
maybe it could happen....

Not meaning to fart in the elevator or anything, as I think Obama's doing quite well, but first of all, getting an agreement on nuclear disarmament in the current global political climate is an achievement on the magnitude of getting laid in Bangkok at 3 a.m. with a fistful of $20s.

Secondly, it's the UNSC. Wtf kinda enforcement can we expect? A strongly-worded statement threatening further meetings concerning possible future voting on a proposal to issue a statement of ideological uncomfortable-ness with Iran/N. Korea's continued buildup of nuclear arsenals?

Sorry. I'm behind Obama all the way, but this story looks like too much of a mis-direction or a buildup for an upcoming revelation. I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. Today. :dono:

I think the UK would welcome a chance to reduce arsenals. We can't afford to replace Trident anyway. Well, not pay for that AND MPs expenses.

Damned credit crunch.
