What do you reckon about this, Seth?

Post by pErvinalia » Fri Jan 03, 2014 10:18 am

A MOTORIST fined for leaving his car window down got off lightly, the state's top cop says.

Commissioner Ian Stewart said the car was also parked illegally on a footpath on the wrong side of the road.

The Courier-Mail reported today a father who left the window down on his parked and unattended car on a scorching summer's day was slugged with a fine that has left him hot under the collar.

Julian Harris was visiting family in Brisbane's north on Sunday when he decided to leave two windows down "three to four" centimetres to let some of the hot air escape from the parked car on the 34C day.

It was a decision that left the father of one with a $44 fine and a rap across the knuckles from police.

I would do this regularly on a hot day if I'm only leaving the car for a relatively short time, like going shopping; the gap is normally less than 5 cm.
Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.

What if your car has a sunroof, or if it's a convertible?
This is the trouble with devolved government. The little Hitlers start passing loony laws.

I suppose sales of those concertina window bars will soar, if the weather stays hot.
I personally favour those steering wheel clamps for car security. I use one, and one night the key broke off the ring, and I was stranded. Two of us tried everything to get it off, but had to get a taxi home in the end to get the spare key. They seem to be a good deterrent too.

Any Scouser worth his salt could squeeze through that and nick your car.

You don't need to. If the window is open a few cm, you can just shove a bit of board in the gap and lever it down, enough to get your arm in and pull the latch.

I'm confused, is it illegal to have your car windows down? Why is that even a law? Shouldn't it be the individuals choice if they want to roll down the windows?
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

Truth is, you don't even need to do that.
Even if the window is completely up, you can just give the top of the door a good yank and bend it outwards...That's how some twat broke into my car the last time.

How can it be parked on a footpath AND the wrong side of the road? It's not on the road if it is on a footpath.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

This.

Around here, it's illegal to have them all the way up if, say, you were to leave your doggie in there when it's really hot out. Or if, say, you had to leave your small child in the car whilst you popped in to the pub for a few pints.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

In Soviet Republic of Oz, windows roll you!

Actually, I saw a news report on this, and apparently the officer has been reprimanded for excessive zeal... ;)

The basis for the law is that people were making it too easy for car thieves, and the cops were sick of chasing them up. In Victoria, we don't go that far, but it is an offence to leave your car unlocked with the keys in the ignition... A bit nanny state, I suppose...
