Police Arrest Twitter And Facebook Users If They Make Anti-Muslim Statements

British police are arresting people in the middle of the night if they have made racist or anti-Muslim comments on Twitter following the murder of a soldier by two Muslims in Woolwich, London.
Three men have so far been taken into custody for using Twitter and Facebook to criticize Muslims.
In the Woolwich attack, Lee Rigby, a drummer in the Royal Regiment of Fusliers, was run down in a car and then hacked and stabbed to death by two men with knives and a cleaver. They told a man video recording the scene that it was vengeance for the killings of Muslims by the British Army.
One man has been charged with "malicious communications" on Facebook, the Daily Mail reports.
Two others have been arrested under the Public Order Act on suspicion of inciting racial or religious hatred. The police are now arresting people based on mere speech in social media, a detective said in a statement to the press:

I can't find what they actually wrote.

Did they criticise Islam, or the Muslim population. If the latter, were they complaints along the lines of "Will ya reign in yer nutjobs please?" or "Get the fuck out of the UK each and every last one of ya flea bitten camel riding twats!"

No, I cant find it either. Its probably been removed, even if we knew who it was and where it was posted. I certainly agree that the exact words and context are important. But if they really were inciting racial or religious hatred, fair enough.

I think it is easy, especially for youth, to say things that appear inflammatory but are essentially a confirmation of their youthful inexperience, the police will have a hard job stopping that socialmedia engine once it is up and running. Cherry picking cases will probably provoke a widespread backlash in the months to come. People have forgotten what youth rebellions are like here in the West where the forces of neo-liberalism have apparently subdued and cowed these historic social forces....

I must admit, I would really like to see the sort of comments that are prompting police action. If it were simply "Islam is a bloody horrible religion, muslims are arseholes and they ought to go back to their own country" I would be appalled if that incurred legal action against the poster. (sure, I might suspect him of being a racist, and castigate him for over-generalising...)
