Massachusetts starting to look like a war zone

Post by Warren Dew » Fri Apr 19, 2013 6:28 am

An MIT campus police officer was killed a couple hours ago. In possibly related incidents, two suspects carjacked a Mercedes SUV, transferred to a police SUV (not clear how they got it), then started shooting at and throwing grenades at pursuing police in adjacent Watertown. At least one suspect is in custody.

They may be innocent. Let us not pre-judge a ongoing situation? :coffee:

The suspect may be innocent, but someone killed the MIT police officer, shot a Watertown cop, and caused the explosions....

The police have guns.

Other than that, no legal guns, most likely.

The solution is, clearly, to arm all students and lecturers.

For a while the "suspects" were engaging the police in a gun battle, from the front yard of someone who was on Twitter reporting about it. Honestly if he'd been armed and a good shot, he could have ended it quickly.

The idiot should have been prepared. There's a lesson here. I know the next time baddies take shelter in my front yard I'll have a sniper rifle, shotgun and body armour all ready to go.

Much like Bangui.

Only 20 people died there and we don't seem to care very much.

The only way to stop people getting shot is to massively increase the supply of guns. That's just maths (math for our American cousins).

For the person who started this thread, I'm pretty sure it's because he lives 1000x closer to where this stuff is happening, as opposed to Bangui. That's about 6 miles versus about 6000 miles.

Not to mention that the suspect still at large is reportedly holed up in the building where I was working until 2 months ago.

Stopping the bombers from getting shot is not what's uppermost in my mind at the moment - quite the opposite, in fact.

You can obtain more information from the living than the dead. It is important to remain objective here. There may be other sleeper cells. Only the living will spill the beans. :coffee:
