Geologists throw wobbler over graffiti on Cliffs of Moher.

Well I like it :sulk:
The country’s leading natural tourist attraction has been targeted by a graffiti artist, who has painted a large mural on the rock at the Cliffs of Moher.

Image

The graffiti, measuring roughly three metres wide and two metres wide, was discovered on a remote section of cliff, close to Hags Head in Co Clare.

The daring artist would have had to climb onto a narrow walkway overlooking a sheer 150m-high cliff in order to complete the mural. Because of the porous nature of the sandstone rock which makes up the Cliffs of Moher, it may take years or even decades for the design to be weathered away naturally.

They can always pass it off as ancient Celtic wall drawings. Dem gullible Yankee tourists will believe anything ...

Hey, if the Picts can carve graffiti into rocks a couple of thousand years ago, why can't we do so today? Today's graffiti is tomorrow's cultural artifact. No reason our modern cultural heritage shouldn't be preserved too.

My thoughts exactly. I bet if it were a Banksy they wouldn't be complaining.

Tourists are just that. Tourists. We shouldn't be warding off local artists to keep amused passers through.

I think it's pretty.

spins blindly in the dark
so close to annihilation.

I was lying down and looking down, marvelling at sedimentary sequences, and wondering whether I could fly if I just... And then backing off.

And here's a pic taken that day in 1992.

A very, very wise move. :levi:

I've never been to the Cliffs of Moher, even though it's within easy reach. The cliffs on Inis Mor in the Aran Islands were plenty high enough for me. :nervous:

I was on some high cliffs near Carndonagh, dancing along the edge while my petrified friend tried pull me in but not being able to get up from his stooped position he had no hope.

Except that this is vandalism of a national monument.

Can a natural feature be a monument? :ask:

Anyway, it's still vandalism in my book.
