Thank you, rainbow. I hope you have a lovely Christmas, too.

I'm not sure what blessed means any more, but if there is some way to ask the fates to be kind to everyone here then may you all be on the receiving end! Have a good one all!

The fates.. were they gods or just some immortal old hags with the power over life and death?

Re: May you all have a Blessed Christmas
"Bless" is derived from the Old English "bletsian", which meant "to sprinkle with blood". When the early evangelists here were looking for a word to translate the Latin liturgical term "benedicere" ("to bless", but literally "to say well", or maybe in modern parlance "to talk up"), they settled on "bletsian" as covering what the officiating priest did to the congregation as part of the ritual, and that came down to us as the modern "bless".
No offence to Rainbow or anybody else, but in my view it's a lot of bollocks, but please yourself. Unlike some followers of most religions, I never want to kill somebody for holding beliefs different from mine.
Interestingly (or not, if you're already bored), "congregation" is derived from the Latin word for a flock of sheep.
