Is the BBC hiding paedophiles?

Post by Audley Strange » Sun Oct 14, 2012 2:21 pm

The question is facetious obviously, but I've been watching the news and the usual Skyfans and Skyfairy fans harping on about Jimmy Saville and the recent allegations. Now there has been rumours for years about Saville, a lot of the last wave of which I think were created by the "Some of the corpses are amusing" fake transcript.

However, the Beeb is getting it tight at the moment claiming they should have done more to address the complete lack of allegations throughout his career and quizzed him harder. I remember this was claimed before, when Jonathan King was exposed.

As I said though the rumours have being going round medialand for years, perhaps decades that some of the household names were pretty suspect. Given that those rumours were abound, did the BBC have a duty to investigate them, do you think? I'm not claiming they're as bad as the Catholic Church, but could they have been more thorough or is it not their responsibility?

Obvious pervert
A bachelor, Savile lived with his mother (whom he referred to as "The Duchess") and kept her bedroom and wardrobe exactly as it was when she died. Every year he had her clothes dry cleaned. Savile's personal relationships were rarely the subject of media report or comment during his lifetime.

Savile was famous for his yodel
:?

I'd never heard of him before this scandal blew up... he seems like he was a freak who eluded serious attention of one sort or another based on his inexplicable celebrity.

I was reading some things about John Peel the other day as well. Very creepy.

A bizarre case really. He was a major public figure here through the 70s and 80s but he was always eccentric and presented as if he had a personality disorder of some kind - never showing any real emotion or even personality. It looks as if he hid behind that oddness to get away with serial molestation and worse.

But the DJs at Radio one from the last 60s onwards were 'stars' in their own right and had large fan bases. I suspect there is a lot more to come out frankly connected to several of the 'big names' back then, though Savile seems to have been in a category all his own.

I never liked him and always thought there was something deeply weird about him, but I can't say I anticipated this!

I should of course add that he was part of a privileged group. :coffee:

Should have locked him in the same cell with Gary Glitter when he was alive. They could take turns dressing up as a little girl/boy.

There are stories of GG visiting Savile in his dressing room at gigs and TV programmes. God knows what went on...

In the ITV programme that sparked this latest furore, there was a clip from a radio interview with Savile, in which he defended Glitter, as he had "done nothing wrong". The child porn found on his computer was "for his own private use", and Glitter was only prosecuted because he was a celebrity.

The cops should have investigated Savile just on the basis of that interview.

This was an interesting piece: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/334810

Apparently he'd been suspected of unsavoury behaviour as far back as 1958 (Christ, really??), and though it cropped up time and again he either bought his way out or the police work was so reticent or shoddy as to let him elude adequate investigation. :ddpan:

While I never liked Jimmy Savile, there's something very fishy about all these claims.
Not one single official claim while he's alive, and yet forty or fifty now he's dead. ( having coincidentally left millions in his estate ).

If I was a girl who had EVER been around Jimmy Savile, I would now be telling of horrendous abuse. I like the smell of money just as much as the next girl.

How strange, nobody complained when he was alive. He must have had super powers.

There were plenty of claims, but the people who should have taken them further, police, teachers, nurses, BBC bosses etc., failed to pursue them.

Rumours are not claims.
All of those agencies deny they EVER recieved a single complaint.
