(Reuters) - - Nearly 15 percent of people worldwide believe the world will end during their lifetime and 10 percent think the Mayan calendar could signify it will happen in 2012, according to a new poll.

Most Irish people from my parent's generation seriously thought that JC was coming back to wind the whole show up. Seriously. The morbid fascination with the Third Secret of Fatima probably had a lot to do with it.

It's probably a rather smaller proportion than during most eras during the last 2000 years.
