Crumples News Of Doom Thread (new stories of the end daily)

Post by Atheist-Lite » Mon Apr 09, 2012 5:55 pm

Rather than having various bits and pieces of gloom, which will still continue, on the boards I thought it would be good to have a central thread. One where you can have surity each day of your certain demise. One where you know the news isn't going to be good. I'll keep it going until the electricity gives out with any luck. :smoke:

London 2012: 'Extreme' Flu Pandemic Risk During Olympics Claims Report

This summer's Olympics will increase the already "extreme" risk of a flu pandemic spreading in the UK, according to a new report.

Britain was ranked second only to Singapore for its vulnerability to the rapid spread of an influenza outbreak.

The UK is at such high risk because of its densely-packed cities, highly-mobile population and popularity as a global travel hub, Bath-based analysts Maplecroft found.

The study said the London Olympics in July and August will increase the danger of flu spreading because an extra 5.3m foreign tourists - many from countries where any pandemic is likely to emerge - are expected to visit Britain for the Games.

Maplecroft's influenza pandemic risk index rates five countries at "extreme" risk for the spread of the disease, with Singapore top, followed by the UK, South Korea, the Netherlands and Germany.

But Britain was also judged to be one of the 10 countries best placed to withstand any outbreak thanks to its strong governance, effective health infrastructure and good communications networks.

The report found that South-East Asia was most likely to see a new flu pandemic emerge, with the region containing six of the 10 countries at highest risk.

Four nations were considered "extreme" risk in this category, with Cambodia top, followed by Bangladesh, China and Vietnam.

The authors expressed particular concern about China, whose growing prosperity has led to higher consumption of meat and therefore a rise in livestock numbers.

Mallardz News of Doom (stories of the end): February 9th 2012

It would appear to the residents of Ratz that the newly opened "Crumples News Of Doom Thread (new stories of the end daily)" thread which opened in the last 24 hours may already be one of it's own stories since it is expected to be inactive come next week!
Here's what one Rationalia had to say;
What are you talking about I haven't seen that thread it must lack drama. I will hunt it down with intent to derail it. Bacon. Cheese. Sex. Bacon. Cheese.
This reporter is left wondering, will Crumples news stories of the end include a story regarding the end of his own beloved thread.
Back to you Crumple.
Ratz it's more addictive than facebook and more fun than crack!

Speaking only for myself a week is a long time in politics but a virus can evolve quicker than that. And a virus capable of reducing the human population substantially may be mankinds best, even only, hope of avoiding a collapse towards extinction on a resource depleted world. Especially given the denial and sheer organisational dysfunctionality of the ruling elites of various cultures, industries, corporate bodies, nationalities and so on. You get the picture don't you? There are lights at the end of the tunnel but they belong to a oncoming train and not what the press would have you believe. :crumple:

Global Economic Collapse Imminent: MIT Researchers Predict Next Great Depression By 2030

According to a study released by researchers at Jay W. Forrester’s institute at MIT, the world is headed for a “global economic collapse” if humans around the planet do not waver in their consumption of natural resource. Not only is global economic collapse imminent at the current rate of resource consumption and population growth, “precipitous population decline” will also occur.

Recent findings published in the study coincide with those of the Limits to Growth which is an academic report from 1972. Smithsonian Magazine wrote about an Australian physicist named Graham Turner who famously said:

“The world is on track for disaster.”

According to the report which was produced for The Club of Rome, the researchers conjured a computing model in order to forecast various scenarios based upon the current models of global resource consumption and population growth. A computing model is a mathematical model of a complex process or system which requires conditions for testing.

The majority of the computer scenarios processed indicated imminent economic collapse would occur right around the year 2030.

Our Kafkaesque World: The Market, Mahyem and Mankind

"Alas," said the mouse, "the whole world is growing smaller every day. At the beginning it was so big that I was afraid, I kept running and running, and I was glad when I saw walls far away to the right and left, but these long walls have narrowed so quickly that I am in the last chamber already, and there in the corner stands the trap that I must run into."
"You only need to change your direction," said the cat, and ate it up.
~Franz Kafka, A Little Fable
In the early 20th century, the author Franz Kafka specialized in stories that portended dire circumstances in a cold, dark, and gray universe. Owing to Kafka's writings, the word "Kafkaesque" has come to signify disorienting, alienating situations that suggest surreal distortion and impending doom, often with the shadowy overhanging cloud of unreliable and capricious power and authority.
It would appear that our world is becoming more Kafkaesque every day. I recently noted how in light of the 2012 bull market, one cannot help but notice the black swans circling all around us. And while the world waits for those black swans to land, a Kafkaesque Zeitgeist in American society and the rest of the world is emerging. Decline of privacy and property rights? Global economic collapse? One of the top three headlines on Zero Hedge Tuesday morning> warned that Big Brother is everywhere. The article, written by Wolf Richter, discussed how developing technology is intruding into personal data. In light of the National Security Agency's building a massive data center in Utah to "intercept, decipher, analyze, and store vast swaths of the world's communications", one cannot help but feel a Kafkaesque chill in the air.

Did you know that the Dow lost around 160 points yesterday?! And it's already down 150 points today. At this rate, the entire market will be GONE within three months, tops!!! This is the beginning of global economic armageddon! Which will probably be followed by ACTUAL armageddon!!!

Ten Minutes After the Titanic Struck the Iceberg

We are like passengers on the Titanic ten minutes after its fatal encounter with the iceberg: the idea that the ship will sink is beyond belief.

As we all know, the "unsinkable" Titanic suffered a glancing collision with an iceberg on the night of April 14, 1912. Ten minutes after the iceberg had opened six of the ship's 16 watertight compartments, it was not at all apparent that the mighty vessel had been fatally wounded, as there was no evidence of damage topside. Indeed, some eyewitnesses reported that passengers playfully scattered the ice left on the foredeck by the encounter.

But some rudimentary calculations soon revealed the truth to the officers: the ship was designed to survive four watertight compartments being compromised, and could likely stay afloat if five were opened to the sea, but not if six compartments were flooded. Water would inevitably spill over into adjacent compartments in a domino-like fashion until the ship sank.

It's not the up and down or even the frenzy of tipping point numbers you need to watch for on the dow-jones Ian. It's the flash crashes like occured earlier that portend a large market swing. Because they are capable of cascade effects onto already moving markets and causing a domino like crash. It is a matter of time before these under-recognised little sneak-events blows the entire house of cards down imo.

Well, and African or Chinese flu that would severely depopulate Asia or Africa might be a good thing... but if WE get severely depopulated, our already faltering dominance might disappear altogether...
Of course, if 80% of population within 100km of London suddenly died, I'd just have to hope that the Ratzes that dwell in that vicinity were safely away and uncontaminated.

You know what, a stock exchangeless economy might actually be a healthy, fresh re-start.
Of course, we'd have to devise a new means of putting venture capitalists in touch with entrepreneurs in need of capital, but we'd do away with the harmful parasites like stock traders and CEOs whose bottom line is stock price rather than company health.
