I see 4 French servicemen were killed and 16 injured in Afghanistan today, attacked by.......a member of the Afghan Army they were helping to train. Far from the first such incident.

Yeah, and somebody bright threatened with an early withdrawal if that happens again, I foresee more casualties.

It's a major producer of poppy. We could just buy it, as we buy from India and Turkey. Business would convert the Taliban instantly. But France has no need for poppy, they have their own. In France!

a) They no longer produce that much opium poppy, not in taliban controlled areas.

b) the poppy you find in France is essentially opium free... that's why you don't see the drug police weeding agricultural fields full of them. I guess the opium laden varieties don't like our soil or climate.

These are commercial fields in France. See wiki under poppy or opium.

heroin is not manufactured anywhere legally, so that part is wrong
poppy makes only morphine and codeine
