Re: Republican Sponsor Of Bill To Require Drug Testing gets
Is this as a serious offence as it would be in the UK (ie a career destroying one? + losing your driving license)

Depends on what he's charged with. "Failure to obey traffic signals", "reckless driving", and "driving under the influence" could be filed. So the license is in danger. However, traffic lawyers abound here.MrJonno wrote:Is this as a serious offence as it would be in the UK (ie a career destroying one? + losing your driving license)

DUI is only mildly less serious than child abuse here, in fact if someone saw a parent beating their child they would proper ignore it but if they saw a drunk person getting into a car its highly likely the police would get a callGawdzilla wrote:Depends on what he's charged with. You don't automatically lose your license for a DUI in most States. I have rarely driven under the influence in my life, and don't have much sympathy for those who do.MrJonno wrote:DUI is only mildly less serious than child abuse here, in fact if someone saw a parent beating their child they would proper ignore it but if they saw a drunk person getting into a car its highly likely the police would get a callGawdzilla wrote:Depends on what he's charged with. Think is with child battery its more likely the case they are injuring their own children, whereas with a DUI you could mow down any random stanger. People care more about risk to their own safety than they care about the development of another mouth.MrJonno wrote:DUI is only mildly less serious than child abuse here, in fact if someone saw a parent beating their child they would proper ignore it but if they saw a drunk person getting into a car its highly likely the police would get a callGawdzilla wrote:Depends on what he's charged with. I just noticed that the guy blew a .091. That isn't even drunk in some places. Used to be .10 was the DUI limit, and it was then lowered to .08. I can guarantee you that almost everyone who drinks has gotten behind the wheel at .08 or higher, and many do so regularly.

DUI doesn't kill people - hitting 'em with a car might.
In the good old days around these parts - too drunk to drive was when couldn't remember where vehicle was parked.
