Nordic thread 2: Nordic politics

Post by Tero » Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:44 pm

Immigrants seems to be the main issue with politics these days. A patriotic party has sprung up in all the countries. They are all Lutheran and a Muslim minority now appeared. One day it's too loud calls for prayer in an Oslo mosque , the next day it is the Finnish presidentail race. Soini is running for the Finns party, 10% votes expected. Halla Aho is the one writing all the propaganda. The anti Islam propaganda seems to be OK coming from Hitchens, but not from Jussi. Recent column in Finnish:

Soini
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timo_Soini
Soini wants Finland out of the EU and euro.

Halla-Aho

The Finns party is in the center, not too socialistic but still picking up lots of working class votes. They do not support operas, new art museums etc. A beer and a sauna is fine, bread and circuses.

Maybe they look to those countries with mass immigration policies and realise it doesn't work economicially or socially - not long term.

The token number of refugees in Finland, 30 000, is about the same as we have in St Louis of just Bosnians. Who look mostly like white people. It is a bit difficult to get Finns outside of Helsinki to employ Muslims from Somalia, they look too different. So it will take several genertaions, unless they move to Sweden with the bigger immigrant communities. There, some suburbs are turning into slums.

Not so. We have middle names for our kids in Scandinavian. Emil is a Dane, so here we have
Emil, Mette and Pekka. He has used his middle name as camp name at Finnish camp 10 summers. She is Josefiina at camp.

It's been a genuine surprise to many kids that men too can be presidents. 12 years of lady leadership behind and all kids under that age haven't seen any other time.

Did you vote, Tero?
