The pedophile is the news. Overshadowed the game.

Now, the university is in turmoil. When the Sandusky news broke last weekend, at least two board members found out from television news rather than from the university. That probably helped seal the fate of university president Graham Spanier, said the trustee.

Spanier was fired on Wednesday, along with Paterno, the 84-year-old coach who was known simply as JoePa and who had won more college football games than any coach in history.

Prayer can be interpreted as a virtual group hug. What can we offer simple folks who have always prayed?

The title of the op sounds more like sports news to me too, but the post about it isn't.

The students were rioting over the firings instead of cheering their beloved team on. Tsk tsk.

There's some pretty weird stuff over and above the alleged crimes. From the link in the OP (my bold):
Victim 6 - was an acquaintance of Victim 5 and met Sandusky through Second Mile when he was 7 or 8. In 1998 when he was 11 years old, Sandusky showered with him in Holluba Hall and bear hugged him from behind. When he came home with his hair wet, his mother reported incident to Penn State police. It was investigated by Detective Ronald Shreffler. Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar chose not to prosecute. Shreffler testified before the Grand Jury that director of the campus police, Thomas Harmon, told him to drop the case. Shreffler testified that another 11-year-old boy also had a similar incident with Sandusky at about the same time (the Grand Jury attempted to subpoena the other other boy, but he was out of the country in the military). State College Police detective Ralph Ralston, with the consent of the mother of Victim 6, eavesdropped on conversations between the mother and Sandusky in which she confronted him on May 13 and 19, 1998 about the shower incident. He said he had showered with other boys and refused to comply with her demand that he discontinue doing it. District Attorney Gricar was not available to testify, as he had disappeared in 2005.
From Wikipedia, with the computer stuff being very interesting:
Ray Frank Gricar (pronounced /ˈɡriːkɑr/; born October 9, 1945, missing April 15, 2005, declared legally dead July 25, 2011) was an American attorney who served as the district attorney of Centre County, Pennsylvania, from 1985–2005. On April 15, 2005, Gricar went missing under mysterious circumstances and has not been heard from since.
On July 30, 2005, fishermen discovered Gricar's county-issued laptop computer in the Susquehanna River beneath a bridge between Lewisburg and Milton.[11] A Pennsylvania State Police computer expert analyzed the computer and found that its hard drive was missing.[11] Divers searched the area of the river near where the laptop was found over the next several days, but found nothing else.[11] Two months later, a hard drive was recovered on the banks of the Susquehanna River about 100 yards (91 m) from where the laptop was found and is believed to be Gricar's;[12] however, it was badly damaged, and analysis by the FBI, U.S. Secret Service and the firm Kroll Ontrack – which had successfully recovered data from a hard drive recovered from the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster – were all unable to recover any data from the hard drive.[13] In April 2009, Bellefonte police revealed that before his disappearance, Gricar used his home computer to perform internet searches on topics such as "how to wreck a hard drive", "how to fry a hard drive" and "water damage to a notebook computer".
