WW3: coming soon?
WW3: coming soon?
The world economy is fucked, particularly in Europe, and we're facing a population crisis. Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons, and it maintains the sympathy of the Russian Federation. Israel is lobbying for war, and intends to attack Iran in the next two months. The economic conditions are similar to the build up of the second world war, so is it inevitable?

WWIII was first predicted in the Fall of 1945.

Re: WW3: coming soon?
Sorry, no WW3. This is gonna end in a massive global famine which will lead to internal civil strife within nations. A few nukes going off and maybe a small nuclear winter...but it would be regional, perhasp semi-global for a few months, not global conflict. Then the food situation will send the catastrophe internal rather than international. Don't look for historic comparisons. There are none for a human die-off with the coming magnitude.

Re: WW3: coming soon?
At first it will be internal, then some charismatic politician will emerge and direct them to the promised land with its horn of plenty. Another country with a large land area but low population density and good food producing capability. Russia and Canada come to mind, the latter being weaker militarily and thus a more appealing target. Of course that nation won't take kindly to the attempted annexation and neither will their allies - inevitable that a 'milk cow' country should form alliances with more powerful nations in exchange for raw goods and so spark conflict between one group of nations and another. If there is a 'global' famine, then it will inevitably lead to 'global' war. Nukes are unlikely to be used as arable land will be at a premium and fallout would ruin it - not a good strategy.Crumple wrote:Sorry, no WW3. It has happened before so yes you can cite historical precedent. The Visigoths went to war with the Romans after being forced from their own lands by the huns and then later denied food from Rome and went on to sack Rome, rallied and led by the charismatic Alaric I. More recently the plunge of the German economy after WWI, the hyperinflation (4,200,000,000,000 Marks to 1 USD) and the deliberate attempt to starve the German people and economy and stimy it led to the ruin and starvation of the population. The charismatic leader, Adolf Hitler, was thus able to come to power, turning the country's economy around with his program of remilitarizing Germany and then sustaining the economy by the invasion and exploitation of other, weaker, country's resources.
Not to pick on the Germans, but those are two easy examples.
