Post by Coito ergo sum » Tue Sep 27, 2011 3:20 pm

The first Dreamliner was delivered to a Japanese airline today.

800 units have been ordered by airlines so far.

Now, THAT'S economic stimulus, and is what the US needs to get out of this economic mess. Heavy industry and high tech.

She's an ugly fish. I wonder if this will finally put Boeing ahead of Airbus for delivered aircraft?

Airbus has been the leader since 2003.

Amazing what hurricanes can create out of junk.

Where do you get that from anyhow? According to Boeing's website their total orders for 2011 thus far doesn't exceed 400. :ask:

Airliner producers on both sides of the Atlantic get massive government bungs directly and indirectly via defence contracts, not convinced its a better stimulus than any other public spending

I don't know what he's going on about anyway. Boeing itself shows that they have -26 orders for the 787.. that means 26 cancelled orders and no pending ones.

The reason is not in the cash flow, but the path. High technology is the sector, and one that is seemingly safe from 'outsourcing' to cheap labour spots for the immediate future. In other words, it shifts the job market towards something more stable.

Public spending isn't the stimulus. Production - industry - creating products -- that is stimulus, and it creates more jobs than "public spending."

According to the Associated Press, the number is 800. " Airlines have ordered more than 800 of the planes that will compete with the Airbus A350." http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/ ... TE=DEFAULT

I'm not "going on about" anything. It's a newsworthy event and I posted it in the News, Current Events, and Politics section. It's a fantastic looking plane, that I would love to fly in. And, it's this kind of thing that boosts an economy.

Well I don't know where the AP gets its sources, but I was just going from Boeing's own announced figures as of 20 September.

I have no argument that it is a boost to the economy and a step in the right direction for the job market. We need to make the shift to high technology sectors.

They do fly themselves. The flight computer can do everything. The pilots can sleep all the way through if they wanted, which I'm sure many do. Don't know why you still have 2 or 3 overly paid "pilots" on every plane, they are obsolete.

The public aint ready for pilotless airliners, I reckon. London Underground trains can run automatically but they don't, for pretty much the same reason.
