Enoch Powell was one of those rare political creatures - honest, honourable, sincere, driven by a sense of duty, brilliantly clever..and absolutely dead wrong.

I disagree with him because he was right, and wrong at the same time.
He was right, that the immigration policy was ludicrous, and should have been slowed to a trickle then and there. But his reasons were mostly wrong.

If he'd pointed out that the Island is overcrowded, that unskilled immigration imposes a benefits culture on the poor, and that the character of Englishness would be lost, and that people would have to lock their doors and cars and everything else, then he would have been right, and people might have taken some notice.

As it is, the politicians STILL haven't learned, or don't give a fuck.

I could write a long post in reply to this about my DIrect experience of how large scale immigration has made where I live safer ,nicer and more interesting (for the second time, it was nice when foreign students could get houses here ) than it was before, when almost all the residents where British but I won't because I think what you posted is already a shining example of utter tabloid inspired SHIT and it needs no fucking answer .

I never buy tabloids, never read tabloids never will.
Nobody ever asked me if I wanted loads of unskilled immigrants.
Nobody ever asked ANYBODY.

I don't blame immigrants for wanting to come here. Of course I would do the same in their shoes.
I blame the politicians for allowing far too much too fast.
All they want is to keep the wages down of the lowest paid, so that they can take the credit for keeping inflation down.
Except that it's put house price inflation through the roof, so that the low paid spend all of their lives working to pay for a poxy little box.

Other countries take qualified immigrants, they pick and choose the ones that they want.
Britain takes people who can't even speak English.
And I grew up with kids from the West indies. They are nice kids, but they would nick anything that wasn't nailed down. Of course they would, because in the slums where they came from, it was a way of life. And it eventually rubbed off on the English kids.

It's not just me. Plenty of black people now say that there is too much immigration, same as I do. Because now it's them that are being squeezed.

That's what happens when someone panders to your atheist sensibilities. I could have you fawning all over me and hanging on every word if I were willing to prostitute myself and likewise pander to your particular ideological proclivities.

I prefer to be an independent thinker and writer and to challenge the conventional wisdom here rather than engaging in the usual atheist circle-jerk mutual-masturbation practices seen at RDF and Rat Skep.

Some people, however, are too petty and small-minded to understand that the basis of rational debate is diversity of opinion, not preaching to the choir.

Your political, social and ideological views are no less appealing to me than the same views held by atheists. Conversely, I have sampled your blog and found the writings of a number of theists, to put it mildly, much less of a waste of time than yours. Don't flatter yourself.
