Urgent Attention Required - The Ugandan Anti-Gay Bill.

Post by GenesForLife » Tue May 10, 2011 3:31 pm

Dear all,

If you are not already aware of the impending ratification of the Ugandan anti-homosexual bill I would like to tell you that it may be passed in as less as seventy-two hours. It is a piece of legislation that seeks to impose the death penalty at worst on homosexuals and life imprisonment at best. People are trying to get petitions organized to try and pressurize the Ugandan president to veto the bill.

Petitions are here.

A relevant blog post by Julietoo is here.

Another one by Meekychuppet is here

I urge you to do your best to spread the word and to sign the petition.

Thank you and Regards.

Unfortunately it will count for sweet bugger all if it doesn't stop the bill from becoming law, Bella. All we will have is the scant satisfaction of having tried to stop it, and failed. :sigh:

Unfortunately that may be the reality of it. :( Still - the world must make noise about such atrocities...

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

According to the census of 2002, Christians made up about 84% of Uganda's population.[31] The Roman Catholic Church has the largest number of adherents (41.9%), followed by the Anglican Church of Uganda (35.9%). Evangelical and Pentecostal churches claim the rest of the Christian population. The next most reported religion of Uganda is Islam, with Muslims representing 12% of the population.[31] The Muslim population is primarily Sunni; there is also a minority belonging to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

It had to be some religious group. Given the chance, this what most of them do.

I remember watching a documentary of some sort with Christopher Hitchens. He made the claim then that he believed left unchecked religions would cause destruction, mayhem and end up destroying civilization. I always thought he was exaggerating and full of it. I'm not so sure anymore.
