By my count, this is the 7th physician the Right-to-lifers have slain in the last few years.

The guy was mentally unstable, probably undiagnosed mental illness which could have been regulated. This had nothing to do with ideology, whatever problems he had were focused on this doctor, but it could just as easily have been anyone else - someone pushed in front of him at the supermarket.

A perfect example of how someone can become a tool for other ideologies. He was part of internet chatrooms dedicated to stopping abortion doctors, and skilled rhetoricians probably had no trouble in utterly convincing him of the righteousness of the cause. Watching Bill O'Reilly probably helped too.
