Narrowing the field by one, Jeb Bush announces he will not run: http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2010/07/2 ... -2012-run/
Even as polls show that he remains popular in Florida, the country’s biggest swing state, many close to him and party strategists have assumed that the Bush family name was a non-starter so soon after the presidency of his unpopular older brother, George W. Bush. Jeb Bush waved off efforts by state Republicans to coax him into the U.S. Senate race.
My guess is that Jeb has no chance of ever becoming President.

He is not his brother, however. And, he was a great Governor of Florida, highly popular with people of both parties. Smart guy and very practical.

No need for him to be president, he already created one.

If she is the GOP nomination, I'll vote for Obama.

Check out Reagan's numbers in summer 1982. Sucked much worse.

How many states did he win in 1984? 49? :ask:

Well, if Obama succeeds by 2012 like Reagan succeeded by 1984, then he'll be in good shape. Obama is doing the opposite, though.

By the way: Reagan's numbers did not suck much worse. They were about the same.

I like Obama's chances in 2012. Why? Because his potential opponents all suck balls. Gingrich is way too disliked, Huckabee's a joke, Barbour's way too much of a fat redneck, Pawlenty isn't much of a heavyweight, Palin would get slaughtered like roadkill, and Daniels is boring as a pile of poo. Romney probably stands the best chance, but only if the economy slides back towards the abyss. All things being equal, I don't think Romney could match Obama.

But is there a dark horse somewhere out there? Who knows.

That is a problem, I'll agree.

Yes, but polling higher than Obama right now. I wonder about Gingrich - he isn't THAT disliked. He did a good job as House Speaker, and is, in fact, a very smart guy.
Ian wrote:[

I agree. He's too Christian.
Ian wrote:[

True.

Ian wrote:[

Not yet, but recall that nobody ever heard of Clinton before 1992 - he was a hick governor of Arkansas. He ran because the Democrats thought nobody could be Bush the Elder. Pawlenty or that guy who used to be married to Seven of Nine from Star Trek might come out of nowhere.

I wish that were the case. She is very popular. Why, I have no idea.

Quite possible on Romney.
Ian wrote:[

You're under the impression that it really has slid away from the abyss, as opposed to just stopped teetering on the edge?

Maybe Bobby Jindahl. He doesn't "look the part" but he's doing a good job in Loosiana.

I reckon Bill O'Reilly should stand against Obama, if only for the epic lulz.
