On Twitter at thanksgiving, all those family visits

I hear you, prior to the covid outbreak I was planning on visiting my sister and her family back in Oklahoma. Her children told her if she gets vaccinated she cannot visit her grandchildren as they believe vaccinated people intentionally transmit covid to the unvaccinated. Duh...

The fatherland sucks at this Pandemic thing. The Saxons are the worst. Low vaccination rate. High conspiracy nut protester rate. ICUs full already.

This is bad
This new variant, B.1.1.529 seems to spread very quick! In less than 2 weeks now dominates all infections following a devastating Delta wave in South Africa (Blue new variant, now at 75% of last genomes and soon to reach 100%)

Well if you are not vaccinating it becomes a breeding ground for variants. Vaccination should be made compulsory in all countries but in a world of corruption it will never happen and that is what is just is happening in all of Africa.

Get ready for new "boosters" in spring. And an emergency is a situation. Not an "emergency situation."
Israel warns of ‘emergency’ after detecting new virus strain

“We are currently at the threshold of an emergency situation,” he said. “I ask everyone to be prepared and to fully join in the work around the clock.”

Late Thursday, Israel declared South Africa and six other African nations to be “red countries” from which foreign nationals are barred from traveling to Israel. Israelis are prohibited from visiting those countries and those returning from them must undergo a period of isolation.

Israel launched one of the world’s first and most successful vaccination campaigns late last year, and nearly half the population has received a booster shot. Israel recently expanded the campaign to include children as young as 5.

Is there any reason to believe new variants aren't normal?

Thankfully we're already near normal now. The kids have their second shot Sunday and that's that for us.

They are "normal" in the sense that the medical community was expecting them to arise.

They can be seriously problematic in 2 ways; if they are more transmissible, and if their genetic differences allow them to evade an immune response (whether from having had covid, or vaccination) to some degree. They thus can have the effect of stretching out the pandemic, and the measures needed to reduce deaths and hospitalisations...

When Israel declares a state of emergency over a new variant you can beleive the world is far from normal.
It was bad enough before this.

Vaxxed, boosted and the pill might allow pretty good protection but it will not protect the hospitals from being overwhelmed....is not ....and this thing seems to accelerate like crazy.

They are not only normal, but unavoidable.

Again, I'm not hearing anything about what you expect or want with regards to when it is appropriate to return to normal.

If you wish to be bothered by variants you may do so for the rest of your life, as will anyone working in the field.
