The genocide by the Nazis was not universal, by the way. Unless you were Jewish, Slav or Romani you had nothing to fear.
Similarly, if you are a white person living in the US, you have nothing to fear with regard to the Trump administration's racist and xenophobic policies and rhetoric...
Rather over egging the pudding there I think.

Do you think you'll find many black people who think that?
Playing the race card is about as useful or informative as playing the Godwin card. I just thought your claim that white people are automatically immune from being subjected to racist, xenophobic rhetoric was and is unrealistic.

Give us some examples of the racist, xenophobic rhetoric that white people have experienced in the US.

Mixed race couples are subject to racist, xenophobic rhetoric, as are Eastern European migrant workers. Having a disability can get your harassed in much the same way. Oh, and being vegan is fair game too.

I am suggesting that different races will have different views on the state of race relations in America. A constant refrain that appears on Fox News is that racism isn't that bad in America, that's it's mostly behind us, and that the left just likes to use race as a wedge issue. You're not going to find many non-white Americans who feel that way.

I don't doubt, but the suggestion was that being white was some kind of protection against racist, xenophobic rhetoric. I'm suggesting that that's only so as long as you're not the 'wrong' kind of white person. As we know, supporting policies that seek to protect migrant rights or calling for a fair and due process for asylum seekers can get some people so hot an bothered that they'll deploy racists, xenophobic rhetoric indiscriminately.

It's stupid for several reasons. First, being afraid for the kind of country you'll create is universal.

Second, if I disagree with you, I'm not being white.
The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

But I've always had several branches of government and a strong military. If your entire argument rest on how awful Trump is (I really ought to dig up all the awful other presidents have said, but bleh), or the prospect of an overpowering militia--funny, I seem to remember you belittling the same type of folk when they dared dream such dreams--then yeah, I'm fairly confident we won't become the next Nazi Germany.
The US will most definitely not become the next Nazi Germany. It is moving away from whatever democracy it possesses. You have a president who thinks he has absolute authority to decide on all matters. He is putting men who are loyal to him into the judiciary. He'll get them into the many police forces and every branch of the administration next.

As for the militia, yes they are useless for war, but they are damn useful for suppressing the opposition. You do realise that Hitler's private army never went to war either, don't you? After the Beer Hall Putsch in 1923, which failed completely in just two days, Hitler changed tack. He decided to gain power through legal means rather than revolution or force, and though it took him another nine years after he was released from prison, that worked like a charm.
Trump is the worst president I've had. Certain elements of the right will become more radicalized going forward. The future is uncertain. But I think our institutions are strong, and the damage done to the right by a rapidly changing zeitgeist they've failed to read is significant.
I really hope you are right, but the fact that Trump's approval rating has been above 40% for almost all the time since February 2018 worries me. On the first of April it stood at 45.8% and his disapproval rating at 49.9%.

What worries me even more is that his approval rate averaged way less between the the initial two-month honeymoon period of his reign and the end of his first year as president.

She really doesn't get the irony. She seems to think that being able to work is a prerequisite for her freedom, which is certainly true in a general way. But using the German slogan actually expresses the opposite idea but the slogan was used in the context of people who were deprived of all their freedom and forced to do forced labor until their death.

Instead, by playing the Godwin card,
Oh, by the way, Brian:
In December 2015, Godwin commented on the Nazi and fascist comparisons being made by several articles about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, saying: "If you're thoughtful about it and show some real awareness of history, go ahead and refer to Hitler when you talk about Trump, or any other politician."[12] In August 2017, Godwin made similar remarks on social networking websites Facebook and Twitter with respect to the two previous days' Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, endorsing and encouraging efforts to compare its alt-right organizers to Nazis.[13][14][15][16]

In October 2018, Godwin said on Twitter that it was acceptable to call Brazilian politician Jair Bolsonaro, who had won the first round and later the second round of the presidential election, a "Nazi".[17][18]

In June 2019, after Chris Hayes invoked Godwin's Law in a discussion of whether it was appropriate to call the United States's refugee detention centers "concentration camps," Godwin explicitly stated his belief that the term "concentration camps" was appropriate.[19]
