2012 US Election -- Round 2
Re: 2012 US Election -- Round 2
I was hoping to see the birth of the People's Republic of America, of course.
And just give it a rest tonight. You sound really lame. So much wrong I don't even want to bother. Maybe Monday.

this is from way back in August, and I don't even remember hearing about it.
The Federal Bailout That Saved Mitt Romney
y Tim Dickinson
August 29, 2012 7:00 AM ET
Mitt Romney likes to say he won't "apologize" for his success in business. But what he never says is "thank you" – to the American people – for the federal bailout of Bain & Company that made so much of his outsize wealth possible.
According to the candidate's mythology, Romney took leave of his duties at the private equity firm Bain Capital in 1990 and rode in on a white horse to lead a swift restructuring of Bain & Company, preventing the collapse of the consulting firm where his career began. When The Boston Globe reported on the rescue at the time of his Senate run against Ted Kennedy, campaign aides spun Romney as the wizard behind a "long-shot miracle," bragging that he had "saved bank depositors all over the country $30 million when he saved Bain & Company."
In fact, government documents on the bailout obtained by Rolling Stone show that the legend crafted by Romney is basically a lie. The federal records, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, reveal that Romney's initial rescue attempt at Bain & Company was actually a disaster – leaving the firm so financially strapped that it had "no value as a going concern." Even worse, the federal bailout ultimately engineered by Romney screwed the FDIC – the bank insurance system backed by taxpayers – out of at least $10 million. And in an added insult, Romney rewarded top executives at Bain with hefty bonuses at the very moment that he was demanding his handout from the feds.

Indeed. And if Obama wanted to move towards socialism, what would he do? He wouldn't admit it, since most Americans don't want it. He'd just move towards it, while denying he was doing so, using code words like "fundamental change" instead.Coito ergo sum wrote:If you point out to an Obama supporter that he says he wants a fundamental change, and if you suggest that the change might be to move toward socialism, they most often will act scornful of the supposedly ludicrous suggestion, but they won't offer another. And, typically, they like socialism -- most Obama supporters think it would be a great thing if we went socialist, but there is a stigma in the US attached to the word so people react to the suggestion as if they have been slandered. Yet, look at even the conversations around here -- many, if not most, of the liberal Obama supporters defend socialism and descry capitalism, but then they deny that Obama is a fan of it (even though if you read his books, which most of his fans have not, but I have, he clearly thinks socialism far superior to capitalism).
No alternative explanations have been offered. When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be true.

You didn't hear about it because it's bogus. Romney was head of Bain Capital, not of Bain & Co.kiki5711 wrote:this is from way back in August, and I don't even remember hearing about it.

Heh, just noticed that the information for Romney's huge Ohio rally, in the portion about security screenings, says "Sorry, no CCW". I guess Seth won't be able to go, but I think it's cute that he mentions it.

Bain & Company and Bain Capital are separate companies, with no shared ownership, governance or employees.
Bain & Company is not a private equity firm. We are a global business consulting firm, serving clients across six continents in multiple industries, including the private equity industry. We are the world's leading advisor to the private equity industry and its stakeholders.
Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee for President of the United States, worked at Bain & Company from 1977 to 1985.
In 1985, as a vice president, Mr. Romney left our firm to help found Bain Capital.
Mr. Romney rejoined Bain & Company in the early 1990s to help the firm develop and execute a turnaround plan. He led a financial restructuring that included renegotiation of debt held by major creditors and put Bain & Company on the path to lasting growth and success.
Mr. Romney left Bain & Company in 1992 to return to Bain Capital.
going back and forth from one to the other, just like the theme of his campaign.

Couple more right wingding myths blown out...

The economy under President Bush added 1.1 million jobs over eight years based on the total payroll count between January 2001 and January 2009. That number was positive only because the number of government jobs rose during those years. Private-sector employment fell by 646,000 during his presidency.
http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2012/11/ ... bs-record/Private-sector payrolls are up 759,000 since January 2009. Government jobs are down 565,000 under Mr. Obama’s tenure.

Rasmussen now has Ohio as a tie. So, that's at least a solid three point lead for Obama?

Ha ha, you can't even read what you comment on. The Rollingstone.co article quoted readsWarren Dew wrote:You didn't hear about it because it's bogus. Romney was head of Bain Capital, not of Bain & Co.kiki5711 wrote:this is from way back in August, and I don't even remember hearing about it.
