Re: The Coronavirus Thread
"During the hearing on Florida's restrictions for requiring students wear masks, one of the attorneys representing parents has been coughing all day. She told the judge she caught covid from her preschooler."

But everybody has covid. So they cant meet in person:
This hearing is virtual because the judge said last week that there was an outbreak among court staff. Also, another attorney representing the parents says a medical expert has covid too ->

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Well no, it's not really a threat to the vaccinated, if we're to believe all the statistics we're being fed. Look at Hermit's post from Sarasota Memorial, I'm not in any real danger, nor is any other vaccinated person.Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 4:13 pmWhere's your choice if the guy at the gas station has little option but to go into work even though his mum has the Rona and he's got the sniffles? Where's his choice if you've got an asymptomatic dose and he isn't vaccinated?
I'm just saying that this is a public health matter, not a matter of individual health choices, and certainly not a matter of political persuasion - not just because the virus doesn't vote but because only a loon would choose to be sick, let alone become ill with a potentially life ending infection. The thing about a public health emergency is that it's a threat to the health of the public - and that's us, all of us, isn't it?
Why isn't he vaccinated? There is literally no excuse not to be, other than obstinate idiocy, and you're not going to legislate that away no matter what laws you pass. Anyone, as long as they're over 18 (or over 12 and accompanied by a parent or guardian) can walk into any pharmacy and get the jabs for free. I got my second at the freaking grocery store. There are medical vans setting up in various places, particularly in black and Hispanic neighborhoods (they don't want to be vaccinated, apparently, they don't trust Whitey). You don't need to be a Florida resident, or a citizen of the U.S., you don't need health insurance, there's no shortage of vaccines or waiting lists, there are, literally, no restrictions. Billy Bob should have gotten his redneck ass vaccinated, then he wouldn't be sick and his momma might live to smoke another few thousand American Spirits (that's a cheap cigarette preferred by many on the lower socioeconomic branches of the Great Tree of 'Murikan Freedom).
Besides, they're not going to get vaccinated no matter what anyone tells them. What are the Feds going to do? Chase down 100,000,000 people, tackle them, hold them down, and stick a needle in them? Do it from helicopters with dart guns? Tell them they can't go to the 7-11? They'll just tell Biden, DeSantis, or whoever to go fuck themselves, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. We don't roll over for authority like the denizens of more civilized societies are wont to do, whether it is in our best interests to do so or not. It's a 'Murikan thing.
And isn't it racist, anyway? The lowest vaccination rates are in black and Hispanic communities, wouldn't mandatory vaccines unfairly target them? It's racist to make people show an ID to vote, right? What's the difference is showing a state ID or a state vaccination certificate?
I don't like the idea of some fucking vaccine cop demanding to see my papers. Gets my back up. I'm likely to react badly.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I'd volunteer for that work. They wouldn't even have to pay me. Hell, I'd pay them to let me dart anti-vaxxers from a chopper...

Not just an American thing. There is no jurisdiction I know of (well, China might, I suppose) that is vaccinating people by force. It's simply not going to happen. The 2 main areas of coercion will be:laklak wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 12:59 amBesides, they're not going to get vaccinated no matter what anyone tells them. What are the Feds going to do? 1. Not being able to a certain sort of job without vaccination. I would say that a big majority would support that for jobs like health and age care. Other jobs with lots of contact with the public might go in that direction as well, but with probably more controversy.
2. For the general public, not being able to enter some sporting or entertainment venues, or restaurants etc. without proof of vaccination.
If it were random stops and vaccination paper checks while driving or walking, then I would agree with you, but again, such a scenario is highly unlikely. But what about if someone manning the front desk of a restaurant requires you to show proof of vaccination before you can enter?I don't like the idea of some fucking vaccine cop demanding to see my papers. Kids have had to get vaxxed to go to school over here since forever, too. It was never much of a problem before Fox News and pro-Trump media made it problem.

And anyway, lak, I know that you're vaccinated. Wouldn't it be more relaxing to be eating or drinking with no crazy unvaccinated people there?

Vaccination mosquitoes. We've discussed that before.

Anti-vaxxers stormed the lobby of the ITN news HQ in London yesterday before moving on to the offices of Google and Channel4 news. Antifash identified several prominent far-Right extremists in the crowd.
