I'm not, I oppose any mandates, vaccines, masks, lockdowns, whatever. But I live in a country without universal healthcare, so it's no skin off my tax ass if an unvaccinated idiot ends up on a vent. Well, it is, but not to the point it would be under universal healthcare. If you can afford it, go for it. That said, if an unvaccinated idiot is taking up an ICU bed and I need it because I have a heart attack or even if I get covid, they need to turf his or her or their ass out and put me in there. Your choice, your risk, but don't make it my problem.
Where's your choice if the guy at the gas station has little option but to go into work even though his mum has the Rona and he's got the sniffles? Where's his choice if you've got an asymptomatic dose and he isn't vaccinated?
I'm just saying that this is a public health matter, not a matter of individual health choices, and certainly not a matter of political persuasion - not just because the virus doesn't vote but because only a loon would choose to be sick, let alone become ill with a potentially life ending infection. The thing about a public health emergency is that it's a threat to the health of the public - and that's us, all of us, isn't it?

Do you think they hate slowing down in a school zone? What's the difference? What about hard hats on a construction site? --yadda yadda
I was given a year of free milkshakes once. The year passed and I hadn’t bothered to get even one.

How about machine gun nests at school entrances? Just shoot the buggers.

You just wait, Dutchy. We already have to walk through metal detectors and search bags. When China figures out how to assign everything a social value we'll need an easy way to eliminate anyone at risk of dropping below the threshold, and vaporizing them on the way to school is as good a place as any...

What about ebola? Are you ok with people with ebola going to your local supermarket, touching stuff, and leaking all over the place? Would you oppose mandates in an ebola outbreak?

Yeah, extending this brand of hardcore modern American libertarianism even to the area of infectious disease is totally misguided and nuts. I remember Seth used to talk about libertarianism having something to do with the "harm principle". Well, coughing on someone when you have a deadly disease is potentially very harmful. Harmful to the point of death. So much for libertarians being against "exporting harm" to others...

I know, right? Today's GOP is so extreme and absolutist that if the automobile were invented tomorrow, and the Dems tried to pass traffic laws, the Republicans would call stop signs "tyranny", "totalitarianism", "fascism", and "communism". All of course while hypocritically forcing women to birth their rapist's children.

Do any of you believe in choice around this choice?
How about choice in whether to disclose your vaccine status?
Just wondering if anyone is NOT authoritarian about this...
Mandates are no more or less authoritarian than any other laws we have no choice about obeying. Members of the sovereign citizen movement in particular keep discovering this all the time.

So my wife’s unvaccinated cousin has just been sent to ICU because of COVID. He was about to start university in South Dakota and was days away from moving into a dorm. Imagine.
This variant doesn’t give a shit if you’re old or young, fit or obese (he works out and lifts weights.) The only thing that matters is whether you’re vaccinated.

And fuck those devious arseholes who are "just asking questions". Mind you, I totally in favour of asking questions. Just not agendas disguised as "just asking questions". Like people "just asking" if vaccines are effective. The jury has well and truly returned on that one.

Fingers crossed for him BN.
And yeah, fuck the fucking fuckers who think this is about politics, character, individual responsibility, Big Pharma, Deep State, social Darwinism, devine justice, or freedom. Assholes.
