Any chance that will lead to an improvement of conditions for the proles?
Prolly.

The ones who survive, that is.
I think I might be able to use NK as an example of what would have happened in Japan if we hadn't nuked them.

Mmmm. At least in the countries Japan occupied. Not sure about Japan proper.

I'm talking about the starvation. 7-10 million Japanese may have avoided death because of the nukes.

Ah. Gotcha. Yeah, they were in pretty shit shape by that time.

Ah. Gotcha. Yeah, they were in pretty shit shape by that time.
To the point where the rice harvest was considered to the #1 strategic target left. Cooler heads pointed out we'd have to feed the Japanese after the war. (Which kills the "we nuked the Japanese because they weren't white" idea.)

We definitely didn't nuke them because they weren't white. We nuked them because we are. :coffee:

Col. Paul Tibbets was ordered to create the 509th Composite Bomb Group, and the Group was to be divided into two sub-groups, one training to bomb Japan, the other Germany. So you didn't have to be non-white to get nuked, you just had to be on the wrong side.

Details, details. Bomb 'em all and get back home in time for supper.

 One episode of M*A*S*H had a pilot who was 9-5ing the war until he got shot down. Hawkeye was moralizing about the sterility of his type of war and the dangers it implied.

Mostly.

I think I remember that episode. Or maybe it was in Catch-22.

I know there was one in M*A*S*H, I remember thinking about my brother in the Air Farce. The chances of him seeing combat short of his base being attacked were nil. Just one more way him and me didn't relate. (He watches Jerry Springer and thinks Glenn Beck makes a lot of sense.)
