Deep down, those anti-maskers who deride others for choosing to wear masks are loaded with guilt for their defiant stand, their authentic unconscious self realising that they are potentially harming others. This guilt, unable to be consciously expressed, manifests as anger... :levi:

Perhaps. Alternatively, they're probably just stupid assholes who watch Fox News.

Connected to my post about consequences for the non-vaccinated (other than a horrible death):

https://www.theage.com.au/world/north-a ... 58e9l.html
Washington: Federal workers and on-site contractors will have to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or wear masks, practice social distancing and submit to regular testing under sweeping new guidelines the White House announced on Thursday (Friday AEST).

The measures are US President Joe Biden’s latest effort to spur some reluctant Americans to get vaccinated as the Delta variant of the coronavirus ravages the unvaccinated in particular.

Government employees who do not show they have been vaccinated will be subject to weekly or twice-weekly COVID-19 tests and restrictions on official travel.

“The administration will encourage employers across the private sector to follow this strong model,” the White House said in a statement ahead of expected remarks by Biden.

Along with the new requirements, the White House directed the Defence Department to look into “how and when” it will require members of the military to take the vaccine, along with other required inoculations.

Hours after Biden’s speech, the Defence Department said military members would also be required to be vaccinated or would face regular testing. Social distancing and mask wearing would also be enforced.

New York: The Delta variant is much more contagious, more likely to break through protections afforded by the vaccines and may cause more severe disease than all other known versions of the virus, according to an internal presentation circulated within the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr Rochelle Walensky, the director of the agency, acknowledged Tuesday that vaccinated people with so-called breakthrough infections of the Delta variant carry just as much virus in their nose and throat as unvaccinated people. But the internal document lays out a broader and grimmer view of the variant.

The Delta variant is more transmissible than the viruses that cause MERS, SARS, Ebola, the common cold, the seasonal flu and smallpox, and it is as contagious as chickenpox, according to the document, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times.

Infection with the Delta variant produces virus amounts in the airways that are tenfold higher than what is seen in people infected with the alpha variant, which is also highly contagious, the document noted.

The amount of virus in a person infected with Delta is a thousandfold more than what is seen in people infected with the original version of the virus, according to one recent study.

Fort Lauderdale: Florida’s coronavirus cases jumped 50 per cent this week, the state Health Department reported on Friday (Saturday AEST), continuing a six-week surge that has seen it responsible for 1 in 5 new infections nationally, becoming the outbreak’s epicentre.

The release came shortly after Governor Ron DeSantis barred school districts from requiring students to wear masks when classes resume next month.

They pulled the same stunt here. They've pretended like schools were an unknown in terms of their potential to spread disease from the beginning. It's absurd.

Brisbane under a snap lockdown for three days after a delta outbreak. I got out of there this arvo before the lockdown started.

95% of British adults still wearing a mask when out, says survey
Figure same as before legal requirement relaxed, while most still feel that complying with other Covid safety measures is important

Only one British adult in 20 is no longer wearing a mask outside their homes despite the relaxing of legal mask-wearing requirements earlier this month, according to the first official survey on complying with Covid measures since “Freedom Day”.

The number of adults claiming they wore face coverings when outside their home remained at 95%, the same as the week before the mandate was lifted, figures showed. A high proportion of adults still felt that complying with Covid safety measures was either important or very important – such as wearing a face covering while shopping (89% this past week, 90% the week before) and socially distancing from those not in their household (88% this past week, 89% the week before).

I think the majority of people still wearing masks when out-and-about indicates a significant lack of confidence in the government's messaging about us needing to put the economy first and learning to live with the virus etc. Reports that Boris has been telling colleagues that losing the nation's grandparents is a price worth paying to keep shops and business open have generally not gone down well at all.

I think that also, after a year, the seriousness of the disease has become clear. Even if vaccinated, people do not want to have this disease. The wearing of masks indicates a willingness to avoid things a bit longer. It also reflects a wait and see attitude. They want to see those curves go up a bit but then slowly down for half a year.

It also allows them to see the grandkids, if they have any, with less fear of infecting kids. That part is rather iffy, though.

A willingness to be dictated to more like it. The grandkids are being vaccinated here.
