Does the PM in Ozland actually have that much power? Here it is the Tweedekamer (Second Chamber) that holds absolute power.

He's the top politician in the country. He's ultimately responsible.

In theory our Tweedekamer (Second Chamber) can pass a motion of no confidence. If successful it would bring the PM down and trigger a general election. This has never happened. Apart from losing elections Prime Ministers usually get sacked as a result of a palace coup within the governing party, but that involves a majority of that party's membership in the Tweedekamer being seriously disaffected with their leader, which currently is not the case.

The problems of a nearly two party system. No one has that luxury here. Rutte is the Decommissioned Minister President officially. They are running the whole Covid policy on emergency powers under the newly elected (well nearly) Tweedekamer. He has no wiggle space. This is the problem of having a multi party system; coalitions take longer. At present it has been whittled down to six parties; VVD, D66, PvdA, Groen Links and CDA. The last of which is in an internal mess. It will take another month yet to sort it out and make the policy agreement.

Partly as a consequence of our lamentably low vaccination rates, the inevitable small virus break-outs (a handful of cases that Europeans would laugh at) are being dealt with via draconian lockdown measures and border closures between states. It seems that as soon as one state has beaten its outbreak, another pops up in a different state, in an Aussie version of Whack-a-Mole...

Conspiracy nuts would say it is orchestrated this way on purpose to encourage Australians to get chipped vaccinated.

Certainly there has been a rise in the proportion of people who want to get vaccinated, but this has been offset by the anxiety about blood clots from our main vaccine, AstraZeneca. The PM is allowing people under 40 to get the AstraZeneca jab, (against medical advice, I might add...). It is expected that few younger people will take him up on that. More supplies of other vaccines have been ordered, but they won't be in large numbers till later in the year. For quite some time, we will remain the Hermit Kingdom... :tea:

You can have Curevac. It's "Made in Germany". But we don't want it because it doesn't seem to be very effective. But it was promoted by Elon Musk, so it must be cool ;)

missouri cases 7-2.jpg
Missouri (Trumpster state) cases surge. With 5 million people, they have 8500 deaths.

They have 39% vaccination, whereas Mississippi is 29%.

"The investigation as to whether there is a correlation between his death and vaccination is now at the federal level with CDC," said a joint statement issued by Saginaw County Health Department Medical Director Dr. Delicia Pruitt and Health Officer Christina Harrington.
How do you get a correlation on a single data point :fp: :ab: :fp: :o  :?

Do you not have to do basic maths to be a Medical Director in the US of A?
