Barrett must feel at least somewhat uncomfortable right now. ditto Kavanaugh I doubt either have ever given much thought to Trump, certainly not during their long careers, and it's perfectly reasonable to assume they genuinely never contemplated doing anything for him. But Trump's promise to take this to the Supreme Court may be deeply embarrassing for anyone he appointed, as he clearly believes he is owed.

With an ordinary President, I'd say that's true. However, Trump is at heart an unprincipled thug and can excite his crazy fans to the point that anyone who crosses him is in physical danger should he fire off a critical tweet storm.

I'd say that people accepting a post at the Supreme Court have always had to consider the risk of some armed idiot not agreeing with any of their ruling.
