This is just another example of the inability of conservatives to think outside of false dichotomies. If a killer is mentally ill, it has to mean that everyone else with mental illness must be a mass murderer. That's retarded thinking. It's eminently reasonable to make a distinction between different types of mental illness. I do know mentally ill people are more susceptible to suggestion and external peer pressures than mentally healthy people for the most part. Their cognitive reserve is depleted by illness so they rely on other people to guide them through the impenetrable maze of life...you can see where this can easily go wrong in a Islamic context? I recall reading that many suicide bombers in the Middle East come from the more vulnerable 'learning disabled' members of the community who are deliberately sought out and targeted by their handlers...much like JW's the radicalisers do the love bombing trick and then strap on the semtex vest all for free...because they are evil.

Of course it's the same old. We gather to discuss the various potential reasons around why an act was committed, and you turn up to concern troll everyone and call us all [racists/paedophiles/bigots/insert-empty-rhetoric]. How the fuck anyone could be concerned about the wider mentally ill 'community' who have absolutely nothing to do with this, is beyond me. Saw that interview with his ex-wife and her new partner. Those two are definitely strange, as well. She was going on about how she and her new partner are "doing the work of healing the souls of the world" and some other very loony ideas. Then there is the fun fact of his father making videos claiming to be the president of Afghanistan (reminds me of the father of clock boy Ahmed Mohamed). On CNN I saw an interview with some former school mate of him who said that at school he was telling Osama bin Laden was his uncle. There is certainly some whiff of unusual thought patterns in that whole family. (Where is Galaxian, by the way?)

It seems he wanted to become a cop but couldn't. Maybe the application-process at the police academy is able to filter out such unstable personalities. Having lost his wife, not being accepted at the academy certainly played a role in his mood (thin about what not being accepted at the academy did to Hitler).

If you have an unstable personality and mental issues, radical Islam certainly is the ideology de jour to put behind killing other people, especially for people already having an associated cultural background but it even works for people that don't even know anything about Islam (like the knife-wielding guy in Bavaria some weeks ago). A mentally unstable guy armed with Islam and a war assault rifle can certainly do more damage than one armed with Islam and a kitchen knife.

I think all those IS fighters who spent years studying the religion and in terror training must be a bit jealous that some lonely loon can do so much more effective damage than their best men.
