You POSTED those words. It's the system that adds "Seraph wrote", not me.

No more so than anybody else. George Bush killed about 200,000 by his actions. Osama could only dream of that sort of result.
And Cat Stevens just wanted to sing Peace Train with Dolly Parton.

What I do understand, is that I'm over sixty, and I haven't needed "self defence" since I was a child.
When we were children, we used to "self defend" all the time. But I and the people I know grew out of it.

Some people never grow up.
If you go around thinking about self defence there is either something seriously wrong with you or something seriously screwed up in your society (good reason to move)

Do you have any idea how much misery Cat Stevens's shitty music has caused? He needs to be happy he was only refused entry.

I think of self defense now and then. Some parts of US cities are as dangerous as parts of UK/Irish/Euro cities.

Without people like Yusuf, Rushdie would have had to think a lot less about self defense. Maybe mistermack watches what he says about Islam. If only Salman and Theo
had done the same one would be alive and the other would not have had to go into hiding.

For the record, if the UK would deny entry to Fred Phelps, any of out TV preachers, that asshole who recently said parents should beat up their kids of they don't quite fit the gender roles, Bush & Shrub, or any other of our nutters; I wouldn't blame them in the least.

Also, so what if people from the Middle East, or even if all Muslims go over the top in their speech (I don't think it's true, but for the sake of argument) and that can unduly alarm outsiders? Cat Stevens had a lot of experience in not being a Muslim and not being from the Middle East.

If, as has been claimed, all Muslims would support the fatwa and the Koran; then maybe we should deny entry to all foreign Muslims. I know plenty of Christians who have no problem disregarding parts of the Bible about homosexuality and divorce. Plenty more deny that Christ is the only way to avoid damnation.

I don't want to be Anti-Muslim. But I'm not going to give someone a pass just because they're Muslim. That's a very insidious and destructive kind of bigotry there.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

It says "Seraph wrote" indeed. That's not right. If anything, it should say "Wikipedia wrote" or "Seraph copy-pasted".

Yusuf Islam did more than just want to sing Peace Train with Dolly Parton. He said so himself. Repeatedly. Even in one of his so-called retractions he reiterated that blasphemy is a capital offense according to the Qur'an. At least Christians no longer feel the need to heed the bible's numerous commands to stone people to death. There remain Islamic countries where this is still done today, at times on an official level, because it is commanded by their holy book.

I'm amazed at the number of brits who piss themselves defending brazen authoritarian bs the moment it's THEIR brazen authoritarian bs. Get over yourselves.

the funniest thing about this thread was that Usuf was barred from entry by accident. Some other guy had a similar name.

I wonder if this cat would have been banned if he were Dutch or Belgian, etc...

That depends, apparently. Geert wasn't welcome because he called the Koran a book of violence. And 101 Islamic radicals were barred as well.

Apparently, Mistermack is butthurt because Stevens was banned accidentally ... but sees no point in raising his voice against England's excluding Muslims who advocate killing. I dunno.

Well, Geert is one thing, but this other guy is a freakin' martial arts instructor for crying out loud. Not that I agree with the Wilders ban either, but a fucking martial arts instructor?!?

It's entirely possible they were worried that this martial arts instructor had his own personal band in tow as well, just like Steven Seagal?

That seems a reasonable concern, to me. :)
