Re: The Coronavirus Thread
The whole "lab leak" thing hinges on whether people think or assume that the covid-19 virus was being cultivated in the Wuhan lab, after being obtained from bat samples. If it was being cultivated there, and simply infected a lab worker who then passed it to others outside the lab, then that is zoonotic transmission, no different in principle to an infection occurring in the local wet market (other than, of course, a paranoid Chinese government covering it up). If, in addition to being cultivated, the virus had been deliberately genetically altered for whatever purpose, then we have a whole new ball game. From what I've read, some scientists think that aspects of the viral structure support the hypothesis that it was deliberately altered, many others do not. It is quite possible that scientific analysis of the virus itself will be unable to distinguish between those 2 possibilities, and if China keeps stum, that will be it...

A disappointing end, and one likely to aid the expansion of conspiracies. At this rate I'm afraid we could be completely enveloped by conspiratorial reality in a matter of hours captain...JimC wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 9:32 pmThe whole "lab leak" thing hinges on whether people think or assume that the covid-19 virus was being cultivated in the Wuhan lab, after being obtained from bat samples. I was given a year of free milkshakes once. The year passed and I hadn’t bothered to get even one.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
The virus is real.
The media disinformation is real.
Probably the best thing to do would be to figure out who has been right early. As suggested by Weinstein.
Of course that group would include conspiracy theorists, but with all the weird shit going on lately...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Has anyone heard about wage increases during covid? A lot of changes were made to work with the pandemic. I'm just curious if that included wage increases anywhere or for any particular workers.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Some scientists think that climate and ecological breakdown is a fabricated hoax, very many others do not. Some experts think Covid-19 (what happened to the previous 18?) is an attempt by China to ravage Western democracies and economies, very many others do not. Some people think that the Earth is 6000 years old and that God put dinosaur bones in the ground to test their faith, very many others do not.
I guess the truth of it must always lie somewhere inbetween eh?

A shortage of workers is driving up wages: are we entering a new economic era?

I don't think he is so much 'far-right', as loonie right.
As in, I think 'far-right' implies racism and maybe other flaws. He doesn't sound that way - just nuts.
