Have you read all the recent articles by virologists about the evolution of this virus, in magazines like NewScientist?Cunt wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 6:58 amYes, and they had comments on that. One is that they leave the possibility open that it may have been a lab leak. They leave wilder ones on the table, too, but not with very high probability. If I recall correctly, 'deliberate release' was at 1%. They also pointed out that if it was a deliberate release, it probably wasn't the Wuhan lab trying to set themselves up...
I haven't ruled anything out yet, but I'm sure the highly paid news anchors will tell only the truth, and it will be uncluttered by politics or vulgar motivations like money.
I have.
The conclusions of all professionals studying this issue is that the biochemical details of the spike protein, and the genetic details of the virus itself point to a natural origin, almost certainly via bats. They have ruled out any human genetic engineering as a source.

I don't know whether Cnut has ever worked in a lab, never mind one that has high security protocols such as the Wuhan one. Should there be a leak, it is most probable that measures would be in place to report and mitigate. That is standard.JimC wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 7:44 amHave you read all the recent articles by virologists about the evolution of this virus, in magazines like NewScientist?Cunt wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 6:58 amYes, and they had comments on that. The likelyhood would be that it is a conclusion based on ignorance and prejudice.

Shouldn't we care what the scientific consensus is? I know you only listen to opinion, so I can see why you don't care about evidence.Cunt wrote:

Wasn't scientific consensus what he was talking about, when he talked about 'trust the science'?pErvinalia wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 8:55 amShouldn't we care what the scientific consensus is? I know you only listen to opinion, so I can see why you don't care about evidence.Cunt wrote:

What's the science telling you about the origins of covid?

Antivaxxers/anti-lockdown types protest vaccination freely taken by other citizens.
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/30/worl ... otest.htmlPhotos posted to social media, however, show people holding posters with the words, “99.96% survival rate” and “End the Lockdown” as well as other paraphernalia that appeared to denounce the pandemic’s existence and coronavirus vaccinations. One protester held a sign at the gates reading, “Vaccine Makers have no liability for injuries or deaths.”
The vaccination site at Dodger Stadium opened on Jan. 15. Since then, those eager to get vaccinated have been met with a wide range of wait times, with the site highlighting some of the logistical hurdles of vaccinating people in one of America’s largest cities. In the past week, an average of almost 7,000 daily cases were reported in Los Angeles County, according to a New York Times database. The city of Los Angeles has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country, as almost 83 percent of the doses the city has received have been administered.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
On one hand we have a description of the progressive luminaries in question 'leav[ing] the possibility open that it may have been a lab leak.' On the other, we have a direct quote from one of them opining that he thinks the probability of the virus originating in a lab in China 'looked to be about 90 percent.' Those are two different positions. You're doing more than leaving a possibility open when you declare there is a 90% probability. In fact, the culture warrior made his statement in response to somebody asking if he thought the probability was 50%.

It differs from other estimations. I wonder if anyone in disagreement will try to 'steelman' his position...

I don't understand his position well enough to 'steelman' it fairly. It would run up against my lack of understanding, of some of the research he refers to.

And yet you dismissed even the possibility of valid criticism from the off. Interesting...
