Republican accuse Democrats and Fox does not report why
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/senate ... -fund-bill
The big picture: President Trump doesn't want to give Puerto Rico any more federal money for its recovery from Hurricane Maria, claiming in private — without evidence — that the
island’s government is using federal disaster relief money to pay off debt. He told Senate Republicans at a lunch last week that Puerto Rico has already received more disaster funding than many U.S., though the figure he cited was inaccurate, the Washington Post reports.
What they're saying:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.): "This is no time for our colleagues across the aisle to prioritize a political fight with the president ahead of the urgent needs of communities across our country."
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.): "Republicans must remember that — just as we leave no soldier behind on the battlefield — we help our fellow Americans when there’s a disaster, wherever the disaster strikes. We do not abandon them. Period."
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa): "To my colleagues across the aisle who have been spending a lot of time in Iowa lately as presidential candidates ... how are you going to look Iowans in the eye and justify a vote against moving this disaster relief bill ahead?"

Did McConnell just imply that Puerto Ricans aren't Americans?

https://www.theatlantic.com/national/ar ... un/238526/Attila the Hun was very right-wing, even compared with other Huns, who were, as a rule, advocates of small government, school choice, and beheading. Attila first came to public attention when he issued his "Contract With Mongolia," which called for lower taxes, ending state subsidies for unfunded federal mandates, the pillaging of Scythia, and an end to collective bargaining. His decision to invade western Europe was motivated in part by a desire to dismantle the welfare state, and in part by a desire to rape government employees. Though Attila was in many respects a social conservative, he was also an advocate of postnatal abortion. After retiring from politics, he worked as an executive at Koch Industries, and appeared on Dancing With the Stars.

The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

Jewish leader takes conservative to task for using the term "cultural Marxist".
I've often seen Republicans here use that term. Now I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they didn't know about the anti-Semitic connotations, but they do often cite anti-Semitic mags like Breitbart, are strangely defensive of Nazis getting richly deserved slaps, support a party which contains literal Nazi and KKK representatives, follow a racist leader, and use arguments and memes straight from the Alt Right.
I'm not saying. Just saying.
A leading Jewish group has criticised a Conservative former minister for using the term “cultural Marxism” in a speech, a reference to a conspiracy theory often associated with the far right and antisemitism.

I've explained the fact that it's a conspiracy theory to 42 and Seth on a number of occasions. Certainly had no impact on Seth, can't be sure with 42.

Re: Republicans: continued
They have a plan:
http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/04/ ... hPkEELwrV8If the Trump administration has a domestic policy doctrine at this point, it could be described as the following practice: the appointment of industry
insiders to Cabinet-level positions in order to deregulate or otherwise surgically dismantle the protections of a given department.
In this spirit comes the announcement that Florida Senator Rick Scott intends to deliver on President Trump’s promise that the GOP “will soon be known as the party of health care.” On Thursday, Trump told reporters that Scott, and fellow Republican Senators John Barrasso of Wyoming and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, will lead the party’s push on health-care reform.
“They are going to come up with something really spectacular,” the president said.
If by spectacular, he means a candidate who was at the helm of a company that pleaded guilty to historic efforts to defraud Medicare, the president has found his man.

Yeah, I think it's one of Seth's favorite trolls. I can see where he'd be loath to give up something that gets a reaction.pErvinalia wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 11:24 amI've explained the fact that it's a conspiracy theory to 42 and Seth on a number of occasions. He might. He certainly wouldn't admit it if he didn't, because was seriously committed to trolling. He claimed he'd been perfecting his technique of 25 years, and I was able to find posts in various forums and Usenet groups that far back. He was obnoxious even then.
