Space is not the answer. How it is used is. Big back yards are a waste of space unless they have a function which they seldom do.
They are impersonal like public parks. Like in large estates where most social intercourse happens in a small space. Plenty of people do not like gardens as they require maintenance and are seldom used.

I can imagine Jim. I was a keen gardener at one time but I never miss it now and thank goodness I dont have one as bending down proves quite difficult for me these days.
