Jared Kushner to be interviewed about Russia ties by Senate Intelligence Committee
President Trump's son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner will be interviewed by the Senate Intelligence Committee as part of its investigation into links between Trump associates and Russia.

Earlier today (27 March), the New York Times reported that Richard Burr's committee wish to question Kushner in connection with meetings he arranged with Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador in December 2016.
CNN reported that Kushner had volunteered himself to meet with the panel in relation to their probe of Russian meddling in the US election including actions aimed at destabilising the Hillary Clinton campaign.

The White House told CNN: "Throughout the campaign and transition, Jared Kushner served as the official primary point of contact with foreign governments and officials. Given this role, he has volunteered to speak with Chairman Burr's Committee, but has not yet received confirmation."

The White House has acknowledged a December 2016 meeting between Kushner and Kislyak, which was also attended by Michael Flynn.

They have also confirmed that Kislyak requested a second meeting with Kushner later that month but Kushner asked a deputy to attend. Finally, they admit that Kushner met with Sergey Gorkov, the chief of Vnesheconombank, a Russian government owned development bank placed on US sanctions lists.
What's dodgy about any of that?

Would it have been dodgy for Obama transition team officials to meet with the Russian officials before the 2009 inauguration? Contact them by phone?

This may well be an issue, but the Secret Service has not presented a comparison with previous administrations, so it's hard to tell what's happening, and what might be reasonable.

Given the sheer number of death threats and other threats of violence, though, one might expect a bit more security.

I definitely am concerned about his trips to -Mar-a-Lago - I want him in the White House, working. But, that's mostly symbolic, I guess, since he can work from anywhere, these days. I don't agree with unnecessary travel, though, and he should cut it out, unless it's part of Presidential business. Obama used to go golfing every week, and spend millions going on vacation every second Tuesday. I didn't like it then, and I don't want it repeated.

I get a warm glow watching this arsehole fail.
Week Of High Expectations Stumbles To New Lows For Team Trump.

This was to have been the week when President Trump turned his fledgling presidency around, setting a course for success and letting the wind fill its sails at last.

Instead, it became his worst week to date, ending with the ship becalmed and its crew in disarray. After other controversies had spoiled the weather, the Republicans proved unable to muster the votes to pass their repeal-and-replace Obamacare bill in the House. The president and Speaker Paul Ryan had to call off the vote scheduled on the floor — not once but twice.

The media world, waiting in rapt attention, exploded in amazement and derision — from all sides of the political kaleidoscope. The Drudge Report featured the historic photo of the dirigible Hindenburg bursting into flames. (The night before, the equally Trump-friendly New York Post had shown him in the cab of a truck, consumed with road rage and shouting "My way or the highway!"

It was astounding that the turnaround turned out to be the other way around. Just five days ago there had been talk of a trifecta of triumph. On Monday, the House Intelligence Committee was going to take the president's side on the issue of Russian interference in the 2016 campaign and Trump's accusations that his own operations were "wiretapped" by President Obama. By Thursday, the long-promised Obamacare repeal would be done in the House.

Here's to many more weeks of failure, hopefully culminating in some jail time. :td:

I remember that duplicitous, deluded, dope once castigated Seth for climate change denial. Now that he's become a useful idiot for Trump he's gone all soft on this position.

Trump's hazardous environmental policy, which would add, if implemented, to the further increase of extreme weather, coastal erosion, and disease, as well as further extinction of species and ecosystems. People absolutely should not stand for an attack on their health, welfare, land, and livelihood by their own government. Trump team's insane policies need to be ended. End of.

Attorney General Orders Crackdown On 'Sanctuary Cities,' Threatens Holding Funds.

The Justice Department is following through on an executive order to withhold as much as $4.1 billion in federal grants from so-called "sanctuary cities," generally defined as places where local law enforcement limit their cooperation with federal authorities on immigration enforcement.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions' appearance at the daily White House briefing is a signal that President Trump wants to move on to one of the issues he's most comfortable talking about — illegal immigration — and to shift the conversation away from health care, after his failure last week to get the GOP alternative to replace and repeal the Affordable Care Act through Congress.

Trump continues fucking over the workers who voted for him.
Trump Repeals Regulation Protecting Workers From Wage Theft.

WASHINGTON ― Companies that commit wage theft and put their workers in harm’s way just received a favor from the Trump administration.

President Donald Trump signed a bill Monday repealing a regulation that had encouraged federal contractors to follow labor laws. Under the Obama-era rule, companies with an egregious record of violating wage and safety laws would lose their government contracts if they didn’t come into compliance.

The idea behind the rule was to make sure unscrupulous employers didn’t receive taxpayer dollars. But Republicans in Congress thought the rule was too punitive and unfair to businesses. They used an arcane tool known as the Congressional Review Act in an effort to kill the regulation, which was called the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces rule.

By approving the legislation sent to him by the Senate, Trump has ensured not only that the regulation will die, but also that no similar regulation can be put forth by the Labor Department again. Trump signed the legislation at a White House ceremony in front of the press.

But they'll still dig their heels in and defend him because after investing so much energy and hysteria into his campaign the egg on their faces from admitting they're wrong is too much.
