"If this were poker, Putin is holding a pair of twos and bluffing by going all in. Trump, instead of calling Putin’s bluff, is saying, “I think I’ll fold.”

"I have no problem with America asking for preferred access for our companies to investments in Ukraine’s natural resources after the war, as a thank-you for our aid. But doing it now, and with no security guarantees in return? Don Corleone would be embarrassed to ask for that. But not Don Trump."
I want Russians to look over at Ukraine every day and see a prosperous, Slavic, free-market democracy and ask themselves why they are living in Putin’s Slavic thieving autocracy. In my view, this whole war has never been about Putin keeping Ukraine out of NATO. It is Ukraine in the E.U. that Putin really fears."

Breaking news! Trump's just released the JFK files! Apparently the FBI concluded at the time that "Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton did it" because that appeared in Sharpie, scrawled across every other page.

I have to say, I *am* looking forward to learning how the old stodgy very serious traditional Reagan Republicans (yeah, there's still a few around, they haven't all died off yet) and The American Press will collude together to rationalize away what happened in the Oval Office today.
That's going to be ... fascinating.

If I was Zelenskyy, tomorrow I'd be inking a deal to sell Ukraine's mineral resources to China, in exchange for military support and to hell with the USA.

Trump just put a full-blown conspiracy theorist in charge of the FBI. Bongino spent years spewing deep state nonsense, claiming the FBI planted the Jan. 6 pipe bombs. Now he’s running the agency he’s called corrupt. This isn’t about law and order—it’s about gutting institutions and consolidating power under Trump’s boot.
CNN
Dan Bongino, the incoming deputy director of the FBI, suggested on his popular podcast in January that the agency he is now about to help lead was complicit in planting pipe bombs around Washington ahead of the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.

“I believe the FBI knows the identity of this pipe bomber on January 6th, four years ago, and just doesn’t wanna tell us ‘cause it was an inside job,” Bongino said on his podcast.

“Folks, this guy was an insider,” he added. “This was an inside job. And it is the biggest scandal in FBI history.”

A former Secret Service agent and NYPD cop, Bongino has become a successful conservative media personality in part by spreading conspiracy theories about the so-called deep state that alleges federal workers are plotting to undermine the president’s agenda.

elsewhere The Great Zaganza said:
What I see is Trump becoming more and more passive, only reacting to what is going on right this second.
When he is the room with anyone else on his team, he tends to let them take the lead.
When he is presenting something, it's like he heard it for the first time.
When asked about anything that happened to him yesterday he looks like can't remember.

Trump has always been about BSing his way out of his premeditated ignorance, but now he seems to just not know what is going on.

Dog whistles and con games
Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’s running mate in the November presidential election won by Donald Trump, says he deplores how much time he spent addressing the opposing campaign’s decision to spread false, racist rumors of pets being abducted and eaten in Springfield, Ohio.

“They sucked me in on” that, Walz said in a recent episode of The New Yorker Radio Hour podcast. Echoing similar remarks that he made on a recent episode of the Fast Politics With Molly Jong-Fast podcast, he added: “I was just horrified and angry when they were demonizing folks in Springfield, Ohio. [And] there I was talking for almost a week about immigration, right where they wanted us to be.”

Roughly 15,000 mostly Haitian immigrants had started legally trickling into Springfield – a city of about 60,000 – in 2017 to work in local produce packaging and machining factories, availing themselves of a temporary protected status (TPS). The status requires renewal after 18 months, and it was allocated to them because of political violence as well as unrest in their home country.
“When it becomes a talking point like this, we dehumanize and villainize other human beings,” Walz said.

The lies boosted by Vance upended daily life in Springfield for some who grappled with bomb threats aimed at local hospitals and government offices.

Walz told the New Yorker: “That bothered me on a real human basis. On that one, I was pretty fired up, pushing back, it wasn’t fair, we need[ed] to do this.”
“Those people in all those positions are loyal to Donald Trump first and the American people fall right down the line,” said Walz, who recently announced his interest in pursuing a third term as governor of Minnesota – which has no term limits – in 2026. “I appoint people who challenge me daily. That’s how you’re supposed to do leadership.

“I think it’s clear that he’s building an authoritarian government that is [loyal] to Donald Trump first.”

You give us your minerals and we will think about something in return. Maybe.
Trump saw the minerals deal as the first phase of a broader economic partnership and told aides it showed the US was effectively making a commitment on security guarantees, because the agreement deal would mean the US had a vested interest in Ukraine’s economic prosperity.

The officials believed that had all been communicated to Ukraine, as was the advice that senators gave Zelenskyy on Friday morning to praise Trump and not litigate the issue of wanting stronger security guarantees to his face.

Cat and dog eating foreigners warned that they BETTER speak English or else.
And like Trump says, we are speaking unknown languages. Trump sure would not recognize mine.
"Foreign language is an unacceptable mark of foreignness. So Trump plans to take the step of formally rejecting foreign languages in the United States — for whatever good that will do, which is none."

Bump wonders why it is necessary to designate English as the official language at this point. He goes back to the census of 1910 and finds that the percent of foreign born was higher then than in the 2020 census.

"About 4 percent of U.S. residents in 1910 didn’t speak English, according to the Census Bureau. Most of them were categorized as “foreign-born White” — meaning that they were born outside the United States but were not Asian or Black."

People in the United States speak hundreds of different languages, with the most common non-English options being Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese."

"Trump’s executive order isn’t entirely symbolic; the government will presumably cut back on providing information to the public in languages other than English. But it’s mostly symbolic, yet another demonstration from Trump that he will, in whatever ways he can, rise to the defense of Americans who view foreigners, particularly non-White ones, with suspicion and fear."

Bezos has made it perfectly clear the The Washington Post is an organ of the Trumpist state now. As such it's not a reliable source informing the public debate. In fact, driving clicks to its website is just supporting its status and role as a propaganda tool for the current white supremacist administration of kleptocratic crony capitalists.

We are setting records now. "Apple is going to be building all their plants here." And 40% in one signature does somthing. And Reagan was bad on trade.
